“Tidal Waves wishing you happy holidays!”

Heita Hola! This year has flown by at a bizarre speed. And so we find ourselves on the brink of December, the start of summer and most importantly – time for us all to relax and enjoy good times with good people and good music! Thank you so much for an amazing year, we really can’t thank all those who have supported us enough! We have some great shows lined up for December and we hope to see you there! All the details are below.

Tidal Waves has become a household name in the South African music industry and 12 years down the line, we find ourselves immensely blessed to be able to make a living from what we love most - music, and of course the message behind the music. However Tidal Waves would never have been able to get this far without the constant support of all our fans, and for this we would like to offer our heartfelt thanks - all of this would not have been possible without you. It has been an incredible journey from learning to play instruments as youngsters in the townships, to realizing what could become possible through our music, to headlining some of the most prestigious festivals and events nationwide and abroad. It has been an incredibly humbling experience to see our dreams materialize and grow. While you know that we know hard work never hurt, it is your support that has been a key element in helping us to persist in our life long goal of taking Original Music for Original People to all those who need to be uplifted, all the beautiful people that need to hear our message. We hope that through our music we have been able to make a positive change in people's lives and contributed to the message of Unity we believe so strongly in.

Now, the time has come for Tidal Waves to take things to the next level - with a new album that we know you have all been waiting for and asking us about for a long time now. But once again we need your help! In being a part of this project, your involvement will be instrumental in the creation of our latest album and a new era of Original Music. This is something that we would like to invite all our fans to be a part of, and, if we can see this project become a reality it will be living proof of something that we have always believed. Tidal Waves is much more than just a band - Tidal Waves is a family. We humbly ask for your support and we look forward to giving back to you all that you have given to us. For more information, visit www.fanraiser.co.za and click on our campaign! MAXIMUM RESPECT, and remember Tidal Waves love you!

Tidal Waves back on home soil!

Tidal Waves are back after a month long trek through America: from Austin to Dallas, El Paso to Alpine, Lewisville to Denton, Hot Springs to New Orleans and Lafayette to Houston! It was a tough journey with many challenges along the way but so worth it. The band received great reviews from their performance at SXSW and the exposure from the tour means that they will be able to go back to America for round 2 really soon! Thank you to each and everyone one of you Original People for supporting our fundraiser shows – you played such an important role in making this all possible for us. What we can say America is great, but we are so looking forward to being back in South Africa and performing on home soil once more. There is no feeling that beats coming home.

“The biggest surprise from a perspective of lesser known acts was the South African band Tidal Waves. Their set was a heavy reggae mix with intermittent dub poetry similar to Mzwahke Mbuli and sounds reminiscent of South African music but an amazing mix of high energy, creative instrumental delivery with extremely potent lyrics. This was their first US tour. I came away thinking, man, this band is perfect for Sierra Nevada World Music Festival.” – Beverley Shaw (Sista Irie, photographer and Reggae DJ) on the bands performance at SXSW.

Another bit of exciting news is that we are releasing our album “Manifesto” in Germany on 26 April 2011!

So we are landing on Thursday morning from USA and while we do need to get some rest in somewhere, we already have a whole bunch of killer homecoming shows lined up for you – with more to come. We’ll be in Lemon n Lime in Oudtshoorn during KKNK (this weekend! yes you guessed it, we have a driver to take our jet lagged selves there!), and after that we’ll be hitting Arcade Empire with Wrestlerish and Fulka, Café Barcelona with Captain Stu, unplugged at Die Sinkshack in Bronks, Tune Nights in Potch, Tings an Times and ROAR Arts Fest. Cape Town – we’ll see you mid May onwards, we certainly did not forget about you! Seriously looking forward to seeing you all again, it’s going to be beautiful. So spread the word, and see you all there for an epic homecoming celebration!

Tidal Waves announce USA Tour 2011

Tidal Waves are very excited to announce that they are off to America in March 2011 to spread original music for original people to the masses. Highlights that have been confirmed thus far include official showcases at SXSW (South by Southwest) music conference in Austin Texas, The Valley of the Vapours Festival in Arizona as well as the Austin Reggae Festival.

Touring America has been a life long dream for the band, and performing with Ziggy Marley and the Easy Star All Stars in 2010 has proved inspirational to working towards this endeavor in 2011. Tidal Waves’ management, Southern Pulse, have teamed up with Rock Paper Scissors (who specialize in publicity and marketing in the USA for world music and reggae, and are true world music enthusiasts) as well as Dart Music International (a nonprofit who introduces people in the USA to the modern face of people and cultures from around the globe through music, and promote personal interactions between peers from different countries through the common bond of music) to make this dream a reality.

The tour is a huge investment for the band as there is bound to be many doors opening from this exposure (SXSW alone is the biggest and most anticipated convergence of all things music, showcasing hundreds upon hundreds of musical acts from around the globe over 80 stages, and drawing the interest of thousands of music industry professionals daily!)

In a bid to bolster their budget ahead of the tour (and the many financial implications involved), Tidal Waves have announced a series of performances throughout Gauteng leading up to their departure as fundraising concerts, which is already underway and has been very well attended. The band has also received overwhelming support in this initiative, with venue owners, promoters, sound suppliers and other artists rallying around them and doing whatever possible in order to reduce the cost of these shows and thus optimize the potential for fundraising.

Tidal Waves are encouraging their fans to attend as many of these concerts as possible. Not only will this be the last chance for fans to experience Tidal Waves live in South Africa till mid-April (the tour spans over a month as well as 5 American states), but your attendance will directly influence the circumstances under which the band tours in March – and every little bit helps. Maybe you can buy a t-shirt or an album if you don’t have one yet. But above all, fans are invited to spread the word to their friends and family and spend many nights rocking and rolling on a reggae wave, knowing that their support has helped the hardest working reggae band in South Africa realize their dream!

Tidal Waves depart South Africa on 12 March 2011, and will thus far be performing at DMI House, DMI Night and Flamingo Cantina in Austin Texas, The Valley of the Vapours Festival in Arizona, Tipinas in New Orleans (LA), Luna Rocks in Lafayette (LA) and the Austin Reggae Festival before returning to home soil on 18 April 2011 to resume their busy national touring schedule.
