Well, as some of you may already know Qristina is now finishing a Masters degree program and is currently in Uganda doing field work. If you haven't already go to our Facebook page, we'll be posting pictures from her time in this beautiful African country!
In the meantime, we are very excited to say that we'll be starting work on our new album this Fall. We have some great groups of tunes and also some beautiful songs that we want to record.
We are also very happy to report that we signed by a European agent, Brookfield-Knights, based in Scotland, and we hope to be doing a lot more touring and performing in Europe next year.

Having survived 2012, including hurricanes, earthquakes, the Mayan apocalypse, and the U.S. election (still not sure about fiscal cliffs…), we stand ready to embrace a music-filled 2013. We are happy to report that our year is starting out with a series of tours, concerts, performances and showcases that we're are very excited about. We are also very happy to report that we have started pre-production on our their third album which we hope to start recording later this year. We're super excited about the materials on it, we'll have more songs and great instrumental medleys! Here's where we'll be:
FEBRUARY - YUKON TOUR: We are looking forward to our upcoming Home Routes tour of the Yukon, that will take us to seven different communities, performing 11 house concerts, doing several school shows and also teaching fiddle and guitar workshops! All of this takes place between February 4 and 17!
FEBRUARY - 2013 FOLK ALLIANCE CONFERENCE: Once again we are honoured to have been chosen to perform an Official Showcase at the International Folk Alliance Conference which is taking place in Toronto from February 20 to 24.. This is a great opportunity to meet many key industry people, make business connections and best of all do some major jamming with other musician friends. Can't wait!
MARCH – CALGARY FOLK CLUB & VANCOUVER CELTICFEST On March 15th we will be performing a 45 minute opening set at the Calgary Folk Club, We are pleased to open for Brother Sun. We are super excited about performing at the Calgary Folk Club, Canada's longest running, most prestigious folk club, wohoo!!! We hope that if you're near Calgary you’ll come out to see us. The next morning we fly back to the West Coast for two full days of performances and workshops (March 16 & 17) at Vancouver Celticfest.
We released the Official Music Video for "Red Rocking Chair / Halfmoon Bay” (track 12 on the “Family” album) three weeks ago. We're very proud of the results and so happy with the work our director Natalie North and cinematographer Arnold Lim did, check it out: http://youtu.be/gA0ZD7RtQ-U Here are a few recent videos we would like to share with you: “What you do with what you’ve got”: http://youtu.be/qhAC5-qXWzE Quinn on his new Irish tenor banjo: http://youtu.be/UeDjPpAN3Tg Sweet Summer Celtic guitar soloing: http://youtu.be/h1dGqpk0d3Y
Well, that's it for now... we're working hard on our Summer tour/bookings and hope that we can make it out to your community.
So until then, may your days be filled with wonderful music!
Qristina & Quinn
Well, Spring has just begun, but we're already excited about the Summer!
We had an amazing St. Patrick's Day, with 6 hours of playing at two great venues in Victoria.
Just a couple of days later Quinn flew to Rhode Island for two shows with the one and only Natalie MacMaster! Yes, indeed! After almost a year of trying to work out our schedules we finally managed to get it together! Quinn performed the first show in Cranston, RI on March 20th and the second in Fitchburg, MA on March 21st. These were Natalies first full band shows of the year. (She's been doing lots of Symphony shows). The next set of full band shows are not unitl October... so we'll see what happens then... In the meantime we thought you might enjoy this video from the Cranston performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRUIC_QyPi0
The Summer is going to be pretty exciting! If Canada Day is anything like last year's, we're going to have a blast! Not confirmed yet, so check out our calendar for news on where we'll be playing on July 1st!
We are especially thrilled to be performing at the Hebridean Celtic Festival in Scotland in July and, although we're still ironing out details, it looks as though we'll also be performing at the Festival Interceltico de Aviles in Spain. We'll also be in Holland for about 10 days, so we'll post those gig dates as they are confirmed.
On July 31 we fly to St. John's, Newfoundland! We're performing at the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival and we're really looking forward to that. We've been wanting to go to St. John's for a while, having heard how Newfoundland is the most "Irish" place in the world outside of Ireland (perhaps even more so!). Our band mate Zac Leger is flying out from Los Angeles to join us on our Canadian tour.
We then fly to Toronto and head west to Goderich, where we will be teaching and performing at the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival and Summer School.
A small tour of Ontario will follow, finishing with a private and very upscale performance in Ottawa, then it's homeward bound.
We'll miss this Summer's Irish Festivals... Milwaukee, Kansas City... but hope to be back next year, perhaps adding several other U.S. Irish Festivals to the schedule.
Thought we should let you know, so that's it for now,
Qristina and Quinn www.qbachand.com
Hey! First of all, Happy new Year to y'all!!!
We're super excited about heading down to Memphis next month! We've selected for an official showcase at the 2012 International Folk Alliance Conference and from what we hear it's going to be an action packed weekend of performing, jamming and meeting lots of people from the music business, so we're thrilled about that. We arrive on February 22 and that same night we already have a 'guerilla' showcase booked, then a whole lot more over the course of the next few days. Our official showcase is on Friday, February 24th at 8 pm. We leave Memphis on Monday, February 27th.
We are also looking forward to playing with our buddy Zac Leger, who is flying from Los Angeles to perform with us at the showcases. We haven't seen him since the US tour we did this past Summer, so it'll be nice to catch up.
The Summer is also coming together and the highlight is certainly going to be our performances at the Hebridean Celtic Festival. Woohooo!!! we've heard such amazing stories about that festival... even just getting there by ferry is exciting!
We will also be at Goderich Celtic Roots Festival this Summer, teaching at the school from August 6 to 10 and then performing that weekend, August 10-12. We're trying to book a house concert tour in the area (between Goderich and Toronto), so if you would like to host a concert and possibly put us up for the night, let us know!
We hope that you've had a chance to listing to our new album, Family. We just heard that National Public Radio's "Celtic Connections" program chose it as theirr 2011 Album of the Year and we couldn't be more ecstatic about that!
So, that's about it for now,
Hope to see you at one of our shows! Don't be shy, say hi!
Qristina & Quinn
We are so excited about our new album! It should be available in early March and we'll be posting some of the tracks, so be on the look out! Because Quinn is off to Tasmania to play with Ashley MacIsaac at the Ten Days on the Island Festival (March 23 to April 3), we've decided to hold off on the official CD launch until May. We are planning a small tour of Vancouve Island and the Lower Mainland and will post dates soon. The official Victoria CD launch will be Saturday, May 21st! Of course, we are also super pleased with our recent Irish Music Award for Top Traditional Group in Festival, Pub & Concert! Looking ahead to the summer we have been confirmed to play at Milwaukee Irish Fest and at Kansas City Irish Fest and we're looking forward to those two awesome festivals. That's it for now, but be sure to check out our Facbook page and also our website for more updates and for our performance schedule. Qristina & Quinn
The official launch of our debut CD "Relative Minors" will take place on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 7:30 pm at Knox Presbyterian Church (on Richmond Rd., Victoria, just south of Lansdowne Middle School). We will be performing tracks off the CD, accompanied by the guest musicians who played on the CD, Eric Reiswig, Dave Klassen, Russ Godfrey and Adrian Dolan. We're still hoping for a special appearance by our friend Daniel Lapp... Tickets are available at the usual outlets: Larsen Music, Long & McQuade, Ivy's Bookshop, Lyle's Place, through us directly and at the door. Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Hope to see y'all there! Qristina & Quinn
