The Joy and Frustration of Writing

I have to be honest, I never in a million years wanted to write. I was always good in English and excelled in writing poems, but it wasn't always fun to me. Writing songs was no different...kind of a love/hate relationship. I really do love writing songs...most of the time. It's a time when I can be so honest and creative, yet I really struggle with the fact that there is no "right" answer to composition of a song and that it will never be "finished". That drives me insane. But, as I am growing and learning as a songwriter, I focus on the good stuff, when a song does work out. I try not to get bogged down too long on a lyric or melody. Always keep moving. Someone once told me, never let the judgmental side of your brain interfere with your creative side... and always finish the song. So, that's what I'm doing today. For the good, bad, and ugly, today I will finish a song.
