Rock Archaeology101

I came across the above blog which details past music history in the bay area. One entry concerns a rock festival that Sounds Unlimited performed at. You can read the list of bands that played at Rock Archaeology101/May23, 24, 251969

Music streaming

I read in the business section of the S.F chronicle about the whole music streaming services like Apples' as the future of music that will replace cds and downloads. Its pretty grim for the unknown or tryin to get noticed indie musicians since there will be such a deluge of content only the most popular artists will actually benefit and of course these companies. Let's go retro. Buy a small radio station and broadcast only music by idie bands and take music listening back to when it was the thing to do, not as background music for whatever mood you might be in. Challenge your mood. Grrr!

Solo show at The Gun Barrel Tavern Feb 1st

Brr! It was pretty cold out there playing outdoors on the patio for a small but very enthusiastic audience on Super Bowl Sunday. Played a first set with the acoustic guitar for a nice couple with small child who were very attentive and received a five dollar tip from them. Sweet! Took a break, watched some of the game, had a beer and then went back out plugged in the electric and decided to rock out as a way to deal with the low temperature pretty soon about six people showed up and proceeded to gather around the fire pit and together we had a great time. Played CCR, Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, Buddy Holley, Stones, Dylan, and Lou Reed. They were dancin'. singing along, taking pictures and dropping money in the tip jar. I was tired at the end of the night but satisfied. All in a nights work but next time I'll get one of the outside heaters turned on. Numb fingers are not so good!

Gun Barrel Tavern September 16th

Filled in once again at The Gun Barrel for Taking Root and had a great time playing music! Starting at 4:30pm with a solo acoustic set and continuing on with electric back-up from Galin on bass & Adam on the drums till 9pm with many people still around the fire pit, dancin', clapping, and just mellow and havin' a good time! Thanks to EJ Hixenbaugh for the opportunity to perform and the loan of his P.A and equipment and Thanks to Galin & Adam for their solid support. We rock cause the rhythm section is that good!

Birthday Party

Just got back from playing at Tim's 50th birthday party. It was a stone gas honey! Stripped down version of Anything Goez with me & Galin and drummer Adam. Good food, drink , cool people, very appreciative. We rocked the blues, r & b, Dylan, Petty, Lou Reed and two members of South Lake Tahoes finest showed up after a neighbor complained about the noise. The two officers were as nice as could be saying, " well, it sounds pretty good to me!" They even let us play one more closing number. The Stones You Can't Always get What You want. All in all, a very satisfying evening! Happy Birthday Tim!

What you missed?

A benefit with food, raffle prizes, on the grass behind the historic Strawberry Lodge, Taking Root opened the music with great tunes by Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, and Radio Head just to name a few. After the raffle & prizes were dispensed, there was the ultimate mash-up jam combining Taking Root with Anything Goez: imagine EJ on drums, Galin on bass, Robert on guitar, Matt on piano, Ben on guitar, Charlie on organ, with a young lady playing the violin. Jammin' out! Howlin' Wolf, Dave Mason, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Reed, Lou Reed, Eagles Desperado, James Brown, with the finale of The Rolling Stones You Can't Always get what you want till the sun went down, people dancin' clappin' their hands, having a great time!

All in all a great night. Thank you Chris!

Another on-the-fly show at The Gunbarrel Tavern

Well! The band and I got it together after another band cancelled and within hours we were set up and playing for the people. Wish I could have posted to let everyone know about it but there just wasn't time. Anyway, we rocked out! "ANYTHING GOEZ" is: EJ Hixenbaugh on drums, Galin Lazaneo, bass, Charlie Carr on keyboard & Robert Lazaneo guitar & vocals.

Gun Barrel Tavern June 24th

What a neat place! Its a bar & eatery in the Heavenly Village complex underneath the gondola. We set up on the patio out in the open for the patrons and people walking by on a beautiful summer day. Started out playing acoustic tunes while EJ was setting up his drum set and then he joined in backing me up with solid beats on songs by Van Morrison, Bob Marley, Beatles, Marvin Gaye, War, and a few originals. Things really got going with the arrival of keyboard player Charlie Carr who added some great piano playing that was really cool to the tunes. People were very appreciative! Regular applause and the tip jar started to see some action. Nice! When Galin got there and plugged in the bass is when the real jammin' began. We steamed through the collected works of Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, Elmore James, Charles Wright, Traffic, Bob Dylan, Wilson Picket, Carl Perkins, and the legendary Tommy Torpedos Direct Hits. We played on! Doin' it until the sun went down and illuminated by the fire pit where the people sat just groovin' Speaking for myself, It was really fun! Thanks to EJ Hixenbaugh on the drums, Charlie Carr on piano, & Galin Lazaneo on the bass. One of the very best pick up bands that I've ever had the pleasure to perform with. Hope to do it again!
