We just uploaded an older song that's been hanging around for a bit...that y'all might dig going into the weekend. 'Blues De Tac Tac' (Popcorn Blues) one of my favorite Nathan Abshire tunes. Although cajun, Abshire's music was drenched in blues. The Kaplan, LA native's music always struck a nerve with me.
This session has 'The RiverBabys' (second generation) playing on it. Jeff Lewis on drums, Chad Willis playing bass (with a sock stuck in the tail piece to deaden the strings), Fellow Erath, LA musician Shannon Suire on accordion and response vocals (it was this interplay between Nathan and the members of his band that added a fun charm to his original recording on this tune), and of course myself on guitar and vocals. I am playing a steel dobro, with a pickup plugged into my Fender amp. To me this is one of the really cool things that made the RiverBabys so special. You can hear Jeff Lewis playing that straight cajun beat, over the behind the beat melody and the swinging shuffle of the bass line. Attention to the details that made it sound like authentic cajun/ creole music, like I heard it growing up...with a few modern twists...like Elmore James inspired slide guitar licks...haha. Anyway check it out. Have a great weekend!

We are looking forward to our annual Christmas On The Bayou show at The Richard Sale Barn in Abbeville, LA. This is always our favorite show of the year. A chance to perform for family and friends, and people who really dig music. This year's show for Saturday Dec. 20th sold out in record time. So far ahead in fact, that the venue opened the Friday before (Dec 19th) for us, making this the first two night stand at Le Bayou Legendaire. Tickets are now on sale for Friday Dec. 19th, and are going fast. If you would like to attend (and this isn't a marketing ploy...it's the truth...and if you are reading this then chances are you are a friend or at least someone that appreciates what we do, and those are exactly the people we want at these events, so I am trying to give you all the notice I can) please get your tickets soon...The Friday night will sell out as well. Once the tickets are gone, they are gone. Each year we try to have a special guest to join us, and this year is no different. This year we are being joined by Robert 'Robeaux' Hebert. Those of you that know Robeaux, know that you'll be in for a treat. Those of you who haven't heard Robeaux sing...I'm really happy that you'll finally get the chance to hear one of the most incredible voices to come out of South Louisiana. Rob has lent his voice to countless bands and venues along the gulf coast. It's not often that we can find the time to work together, but we've made it a point to set aside the time this year, and we really can't wait to cut up, and throw down. Clint 'Chief' Redwing will of course be bringing the beat, that will make you want to move. Chad Willis will round this thing out, holding down the low end on bass guitar. We'll be playing some old originals, some stuff off of the upcoming album, that is in the works right now, as well as a few holiday classics to warm up the season feeling in everyone. Visit www.michaeljuannunez.com or www.richardsalebarn.com for further information on purchasing tickets, directions, time, etc. See you guys next weekend. Happy holidays. MJN
Friday night will be a night filled with music in Lafayette..(one of the reasons I love this area). DownTown Alive! is having a very special edition this week. It is a tribute to David Egan. Featuring Lil' Band O' Gold. If you don't know who David is, I'm not gonna even try to explain about him..type his name in a search engine, do some research, buy some music...nuff said about that. My heroes are songwriters...and David is no exception. Thing about David is, he took interest in me. He spent time talking, guiding, answering questions...I'd like to say that I am special, but I'm not...This is just who David is. He's done the same with lots of artists. David is willing to lend a hand, and pass the craft on to the next generation so that it continues to live . David is also a friend...who at the present time isn't doing so well. Needless to say I'm honored to be able to sing one of his tunes Friday at this tribute...along with an impressive cast of musicians...Lil' Band O' Gold (who David usually plays the keys with) will be the 'house' band...and what a band...C.C. Adcock, Steve Riely, and Warren Storm front this group filled with the very best players around , along with Tommy McLane, Sonny Landreth, Jon Cleary, The A-Train, Buddy Flet...way too many to mention...it's gonna be an incredible evening. Following DownTown Alive! come on over to Antlers, I'll be playing with my band The American Electric (Clint Redwing, and Chad Willis)...and maybe a few guests will pop in. To all my friends in NOLA, I'll be at Chikie Wha Wha Saturday night playing an acoustic set. At any rate, hope everyone has a great weekend! See ya!
Happy Holidays everyone. To show our appreciation, we are inviting you guys to download our original Christmas song, "Jachimo Christmas" for free! Just go to the Reverbnation site, and hit the download button. Enjoy!
