“..set out on the career that she’s envisioned for her-self since she was 6 years old. “I’ve always wanted to be a musician.” Spears said. “Ever since I was a little kid I’d make up little songs you know, do little skits and stuff. I started learning guitar when I was about 12.” As I learn more about Spears during our recent interview, I can’t help thinking her music is incongruous with the musician. Raised along with six other kids by a single mom, Spears insisted that a lot of the hardships she went through do end up in the music, through Spears songs indulge in very little angst or pathos. Instead the songs are imbued with a sense of spiritual uplift, a kind of seize-the-day cheerleading for the soul that kind of makes you want to jump up on a sofa and do a half-gainer.
