Boulder, Colorado, electronic music duo (no)poem are bringing their one-of-a-kind ambient experimental sound to the DMSC Basement next Sunday evening, August 2. Making "intriguing music from odd instruments," (no)poem's structured-but-improvisational work is supported by postcard-sized graphical scores (pictured below). The duo shuns the use of laptop computers or traditional keyboard synths, and uses alternative controllers (a modular synthesizer, an Elektron Octatrack, and a Waldorf Blofield desktop) to produce the work. This instrumental combo is aided by an automated generative visual system guided by, well, nobody. Doors open for a pre-show electronic instrument show-and-tell "petting zoo" at 4:30 p.m., followed by (no)poem's performance at 5:30 p.m. More information about (no)poem is available on the duo's website: http://www.nopoem.net/
Boulder Colorado based duo (no)poem (aka Darwin Grosse on modular synthesizer, and Mark Mosher on Octatrack dynamic performance sampler) are on a tour and will be coming through Lincoln. The unique nature of our interaction comes from the instruments that we use. Darwin focuses his attention on a portable modular synthesizer, while Mark's system is centered around an Elektron Octatrack and a Waldorf Blofeld desktop. This combo is aided by an automated generative visual system guided by, well, nobody. Our work is completely improvised, but are supported by the use of postcard-sized graphical scores. This gives us the ability to create structured improvisations while remaining open to react to our surroundings and to each others' work. We do not use laptop computers or keyboards during our performance, forcing us to use alternative controlling devices to produce the work. Donations at door with door 25% proceeds going to SP CE Commons. http://www.nopoem.net/
