Maria Day took to the stage armed only with an acoustic guitar and performed some of the most dark and hauntingly beautiful songs I have ever heard. Her soft, mesmerising guitar style and sound reminded me of Nick Drake; and she sings from her soul, expressing words with such intensity, meaning and emotion. Her voice is simply haunting and beautiful. Her performance left me speechless. Terry Lane - Saturday 10.11.12, 15:15pm http://www.buzzinmusicblog.co.uk/

“Maria Day’s new album Ruins crystallizes a dark concept of a destructive personal world colliding with a corrupt political one. With opening songs weaved together, the immediate feeling is that she means business; lining up family and state tensions with songs like the anthemic Two Step and the rousing Game or a War. This is a clear indictment of the wrongs and tragic misfortunes of a world and its inhabitants on the brink of physical, emotional and spiritual meltdown. This album mirrors the fragility of the human condition with songs such as Passa, Fixed and the finale title song Ruins. These songs form a searing body of work about the human heart, art, culture, politics and religion culminating in a whole that is far more than the sum of its parts. This work could be classified as art rather than entertainment despite Maria’s undeniable musical talent and melodic virtue. Ruins is a triumph of expressive creativity and sets an impressive marker within the acoustic folk genre”
