The Third Annual Middlebury Celtic Festival Night at Town Hall Theater -- featuring Patrick Webb the Irishman for Hire as your emcee, bagpiper Tim Cummings, Burlington pub band extraordinaire Longford Row, and Middlebury's own O'hAnleigh.
“Celtic culture to captivate Middlebury The Town Hall Theater will get its Irish up this weekend. The theater hosts its first Celtic Festival at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $15. The evening includes bagpiping, step-dancing and three other musical acts. Cindy Hill, a Middlebury resident and musician who helped organize the show, said part of the idea of the event is to show people the sort of Irish music audiences don't typically hear. Toward that end, she pointed to Irishman for Hire, made up of singer/percussionist Patrick Webb and guitarist/fiddler Jim Paulsen. "Patrick Webb is a wonderful tenor balladeer," Hill said. "That is a branch of Irish music you don't hear a lot of in the U.S. The voice is the most impressive instrument of all." Hill described Webb's ballads as bawdy and funny. "It's not Irish rock, but it's certainly a fresh take," she said. "Patrick Webb does a lot of research. It's certainly not something you're going to hear on an Irish music TV special."”
