Astrakan: Astrakan began in 2004 as the Astrakan Collective, a flexibly-structured big band formed by Michael Garcia to play his own instrumental compositions that combined elements of free improvisation and structured ensemble material. The band dropped the ‘Collective’ from its name in 2006 when a more manageable five-piece line-up of Garcia (keys), Raymond Hardy (saxes), Jerry Wigens (guitar), Oli Mayne I AM Meat: Riffing, soloing sax by Gardyloo Spew, pumping dynamics on bass by Cos Chapman and drums by Jonas Golland, guitarless avant-punk; songs of carefully lyrical macabre, and the further wonders of David Gadsdon's mind. Club Astrakan: Other bands sharing the bill have been Mishaped Pearls, Click Beetle, Bitten by a Monkey, Rude Mechanicals, The Windsors, The Happy Couple, Lost Harbours, SNORK, Snorkel, French for Cartridge and Sound of the Sun. It's always a two band format as we feel this gives greater leeway in terms of planning sets, ie bands can play for longer if they want to.

With Comet Sands, FulangChang&I, Sebastian Melmoth, I Am Meat, and host, Matt 'fresh-from-mild' Denton ............... I Am Meat ............... VIDEO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAVsnQ8pwT4#t=00m25s Guitarless punk band with multifaceted vocals, sax, bass and drums, smashing a variety of unortodox grooves. "...quintessential English colonialist surreal humour in a Vivian Stanshall meets Diz Willis kind of way." - Idwal Fisher, (Nov 04, 2011) (formerly Protagonists of David Gadsdon). Now infused with the raw bass of Cos Chapman (Rude Mechanicals), Gardyloo Spew completes the melody with alto saxophone in a riffy, modal way. On the funk based, free-form drumming of Jonas Golland, vocalist David Gadsdon continues to develop from his days in stand-up comedy with very little in the way of eye brows, sweating his way though scary imagery and comically vicious songs. I Am Meat has played many gigs including Sound Art Festival at Overtoom 301, Amsterdam. At the gig the album at least will be available. Stay tuned. <www.reverbnation.com/iammeat> __________ Sebastian Melmoth Trying to describe the works of Sebastian Melmoth is a Sisyphus task if there ever was one. Just when you think you’ve figured them out, they throw something new into the mix and you’re back where you started. You're bound to be treated to post-rock vibes, psychedelic ballads, epic dirges, motor-driven acoustic dance music and twitching post-punk all wrapped in a distinctly intellectual package. What makes them all that more alluring is that they somehow manage to make this bewildering melting-pot of styles gel, and seem completely natural. Melmoth will be celebrating the release of their new album, In Ruins, and entice y'all to some and join them on their existential roller coaster ride. http://sebastianmelmoth.co.uk __________ Comet Sands Bearded bass strings do the maths, with a name that would make Ming the Merciless wet with expectation. Five space-rockers getting hot and sweaty in close proximity to one other. Boy, girl, boy, boy, snare. Take your hands off my ageing Yamaha! Seventies lasers broadcast telling tales beyond the polluted stratosphere. Out there, we are immaculate. Out there, we are stoned. http://cometsands.bandcamp.com __________ FulangChang&I The worlds were already in us. Tenderly exhumed from old ideas and carved in our own image. They were all dry and puckered like old fruit, until we dipped them in liquid. Swelled, plush, and distended with life. The blood, tight to the skin with life. Can you feel everything? Let's just lie here and photosynthesise. And you would have milk bottle eyes, today, like a new mouse. Peeping at me. Or nothing at all, and clutching. http://soundcloud.com/fulangchang/swans __________ This event is a record release party. And therefore free of charge. Although a donation to the bands and/or purchase of the album(s) is strongly recommended, seeing as the world is drowning and we all need to save up to build a Noah's Ark of Rock! http://stagsheadhoxton.com
