Boxcar Bandits / Bio

Boxcar Bandits: North Texas Skunkgrass power trio and friends, homegrown in Denton, TX since 2006. Equally at home at a beer joint or concert hall, back porch or street corner, the group melds bluegrass, old-time, western swing and country with the sounds of string band instruments to create their signature Skunkgrass sound. Boxcar Bandits’ first album, “Smells Like Grass” was released in 2008, and a live set, “Live at Dan’s Silver Leaf”, was released in 2011; both are available on Break-a-Pick Records. Their third release "Ballads to Deep Gap: A Tribute to Doc Watson" will be available on June 9th, 2016

From 2010-2015 the Boxcar Bandits had a weekly residency in Denton, first at Dan’s Silver Leaf, next at Hailey’s, and then at Mulberry Street Cantina. The band continues touring throughout the United States. They have also opened for such acts as Junior Brown, John Cowan, Greensky Bluegrass, Mountain Sprout, Packway Handle Band, Milkdrive and Cornmeal. In the Fall of 2012, the Boxcar Bandits were nominated for a Dallas Observer Music Award in Best Roots/Americana category.
