Joeys Coop is the combined musical muscle of some of Australia's most seasoned independent musicians whose collective pedigree extends back to the late 1970s. The Coop consists of: Brett Myers - guitar & vocals Founding member and principal songwriter of legendary Australian indy band Died Pretty. Mark Roxburgh - lead vocals Singer / songwriter of late 70s Sydney indy band ME 262. Singer / songwriter of early 80s critically acclaimed indy band Decline of the Reptiles. Andy Newman - bass, keyboards & vocals Bass player / keyboardist / songwriter of late 70s Sydney indy band ME 262. More recently Andy has played bass with Australian Rock Hall of Famer and ex- Radio Birdman guitarist Chris Mazuak's North 40 and fellow Hall of Famer and Radio Birdman founding guitarist Deniz Tek's bands The Visitors, The Soul Movers, and The Deniz Tek Group. Andy also played bass with the reformed Decline of the Reptiles from 2009 - 2012. Matt Galvin - guitars & vocals Member of critically acclaimed 90s alt rock band Eva Trout. Matt has played with various legendary Sydney indy bands including The Whitlams, Tactics, The Barbarellas, Perry Keyes and more recently Loose Pills. Lloyd G - drums, percussion & vocals Lloyd has played with a vast array of musicians including Lionel Ritchie, Tina Arena, Adam Brand, Skyhooks, Susheela, Christine Anu, Deni Hines, Jenny Morris, Roshani, Natasha Bedingfield and Jimmy Barnes, to name but a few. The Story The mean age of contemporary popular musicians is 26 . Talented though these little fuckers may be they have limited life experience, appeal largely to their own age bracket, and tell the facile tales of a wet behind the ears self interested generation. Joeys Coop gives voice to the life experiences of musicians in their 50s that will resonate with an older audience hungry for music that relates to them. Built around the songwriting of Myers and Roxburgh and with all members contributing to arranagments with deft musical touches, Joeys Coop tell tales of fractured family, loss, the oddities of 21st century life, the burdens of overleveraged real estate commitments, memories of landscape lost and mediations on the lives of friends gone wrong. Joeys Coop draws on a wide palette of musical inspiration. If you could imagine mixing a smidge of Velvet Underground with a reasonable dose of melodic pop, tinged with a good shot of alt country (ala Wilco), and run it through a bit of a funk / blues filter you'd come some way to getting a handle on what the Coop sounds like.
