Vanessa Perea’s voice is strong in the tradition of the masters. With a rare ability to sing diverse styles at the highest degree of authenticity, beautiful sound and sweeping range, Vanessa shows a confidence and poise beyond her years. She has shared the stage with such legendary musicians as James Moody, Jimmy Heath, Eddie Palmieri, Charles McPherson, Randy Brecker, Dwayne Burno, John Lee, Claudio Roditi, and George Cables.
Born on September 24, 1987 in Glenridge, New Jersey, to parents of Cuban and Colombian heritage, she grew up listening to salsa tunes on her father’s record player and learned to dance before she could walk. At 6 she was already singing in the church choir and by high school, piano & voice lessons led to performances in school musicals and choirs. Her early training yielded impressive results. With a desire to refine her considerable talents she soon enrolled at New Jersey City University, where she received a BA in Music Education. Vanessa’s future continues to grow brighter with her highly anticipated release coming this summer 2012, featuring Cyrus Chestnut, John Lee, Mark Whitfield, Michael Dease and Sharel Cassity.
Vanessa performs regularly in NY and NJ. She has been seen at New York's most distinguished jazz clubs such as Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, Zinc Bar, Smalls, Cleopatra's Needle, Zeb's and in New Brunswick, NJ as an artist of the New Brunswick Jazz Project. You can catch Vanessa at the Warehouse Café on 140 Bay St., Jersey City, NJ were she as a residency every Saturday from 3-5pm.
