Carrissa Blu / Bio

She may turn heads with her beauty, but she’ll smack you in the face with her voice. A petite frame with a powerful tone, Carrissa Blu creates music true to her personality – full of fire, charisma, and burning with attitude. Much like her infectious persona, her lyrics are raw, honest, and unapologetically real. And with a crossover pop sound born from collaborations across the Atlantic and laid out to a mix of synths, strings, and U.K.-inspired beats, her upcoming EP (scheduled for release, summer 2014) shines like the fire burning inside her.

Her latest project came together after months of blood, sweat, and tears. Having written all of her own songs, she makes no apologies for laying it all out in her upcoming EP. “I wanted to be honest in my music so that I could really connect with people through my experiences, both good and bad.” In 2013, she moved to New York City to pursue her dream. Raised with a southern wholesomeness, she was naïve to the grind of city life. “Moving to NYC really thickened my skin,” she recalls. “I wrote the song ‘Bright Lights’ (featured in her upcoming EP) from this experience. It was tough, but it only fueled my desire and made me more driven than ever.” After months of grinding and nonstop writing, she teamed up with accomplished musical engineer and vocal producer, Jorge Velasco, to mix her songs, including her first single “Freedom” due for release March 24th, 2014.

When she’s not writing or recording, she’s hard at work making a name for herself around town. Within a month of moving to the Big Apple, she sang the National Anthem for the NY Mets. Impressed by her talent, she was contacted by the NY Times and featured in an article. Soon after, other teams came calling, opening the door for her to sing for the NY Islanders and for her upcoming performance for the NY Knicks at Madison Square Garden on March 23rd, 2014.

It was the success she achieved in her hometown of Tampa, Florida that first ignited the passion she has for singing in front of large crowds. “I was in the choir at my church in Tampa and they asked me to do a solo,” she recalls with an innocent smile. “The moment I stepped on stage I felt a high like nothing I’ve experienced before. At that moment, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life.” Driven by this passion, Carrissa seized every opportunity she could to sing. Before long, she sang the National Anthem for her hometown sports teams in the NFL, NHL, and MLB, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Tampa Bay Rays. From there she branched out, singing for the Miami Heat, Philadelphia Phillies, and New York Yankees. In 2011, she sang for her biggest crowd yet, belting the Anthem at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix in front of over 100,000 live spectators and millions more on its ABC broadcast.

While still in Tampa, Carrissa hit radio airplay on local radio station 93.3flz and New York City’s 92.3now with her dance remix of Akon’s “Sexy Chick”, reaching millions of listeners. “I remember sitting in my car, hearing my voice on the radio for the first time. Everything inside me kicked in to overdrive and I knew I had to move to New York and risk everything to achieve my dream. Singing and songwriting is my passion and I want to share it with the world.”
