"Great Neck" was the city in long island where Anomie Fatale had her head and neck fused together. The surgeons initially messed it up so that she couldn't open her mouth to sing. So after a year of fighting for it, and extreme corrective surgery, she could once again make music. After the 30 hours of spinal remodeling anesthesia, she woke up told the surgeons, "Hey- I can bite you now." Then named her band Great Neck.
The first "Great Neck" band was made up of Anomie and her close friend Mike. The two were close friends that met in alternative highschool, and Mike turned caretaker after her medical issues got bad. The project was indie/experimental/folkish. Their influences were the moldy peaches, velvet undergound, jefferson airplane, and of montreal. As kids Mike and Anomiesothername had a band together called "Fail!" that won the bucks county songwriters award for youth in 2006. The project ended when Mike moved away to Florida in 2010.
The next band Anomie kept the name "Great Neck" for was with guitarist Jesse Draham. He had played guitar for live shows in the original Great Neck, and eventually started dating Anomie. The influences were hard rock/blues based: Concrete Blonde, X, Patti Smith, etc. Shows were performed with bassist Alex Lewis, drummer Matt Dipaolo. The relationship ended and the band broke up in 2013.
At the beginning of 2014 Mike returned from Florida, and a photo of him and Jesse together went up online of them burning a Great Neck shirt with the caption "Great Neck is DEAD!"
to which Anomie publicly responded
"No it's not, cause I'm still alive."
thus this website is no longer greatneckband.com
and is now iamgreatneck.com
and currently Anomie does her music 100% independently
love you too -Anomie)
