Originally from Huntington, WV, Marcum Stewart started playing piano at the early age of 4, began writing songs at the age of 12, and taught himself how to play Guitar at age 15. He was in several bands before moving to Nashville, including one in Huntington with well-known Nashville songwriter/artist Rick Huckaby called Southern Knights.
Marcum moved to Nashville, TN in 1994 to pursue a career as a songwriter/producer. Early in his career he was the Catalog Manager/Tape Room Guy for two publishing companies in town (Island Bound Music & Rick Hall Music). Along with tape copy, he was assistant engineer to Island Bound Studio's house engineer at the time, Luke Wooten (who you may know as Producer for Dierks Bentley).
In 95 & 96 he joined a country songwriters group that Brenda Cline put together called the "Young Riders" which comprised of himself, Rachel Proctor, Kenny Horton & Tom Wurth. They spent a year headlining "Writer in the Rounds" all over Nashville including such historic venues like The Bluebird Cafe.
Marcum never claimed to be a singer nor had the desire to be a performer, but joined a local rock band in '98 called Seven Stories High which ended up becoming Subsonic to play Rhythm Guitar, but they lacked a singer. Marcum stepped in and sang for them. In 2003 that same band had a deal on the table with Wind-Up Records out of NYC which ultimately fell through.
Through a couple other attempts with Rock bands (Tragedy Kings & Bluecollar Suicide), Marcum eventually went back to his roots & love of Country. For a little over 2 years he was in the duo with Andrea Villarreal called Acklen Park, they had some chart success with their song "Great American Song" which peaked at #47, had a video on TCN and gained thousands of fans on Facebook & Twitter.
Marcum has had several cuts by Independent artists as a songwriter.
Most recently Marcum is enjoying success as a solo artist. His debut solo album "Put It In Drive" was released in October of 2014 and that album features key songs "Great American Song" and "Me Before You". "Me Before You" became Marcum's first ever Top 30 Radio Single and in fact reached #1 on the UK/European Hot Disc Chart in May of 2015.
Marcum also has 10 TV & Film placements, 7 overall placements with the CW hit TV show "Hart of Dixie" as well as placements in the movies "Storm Rider", "Romance In The Outfield" and "On The Wing". Cool fact about "Great American Song" is that it was featured as part of the script in "Hart of Dixie". They used the song in Season 1 on the "Pilot" episode for when George and Zoe met for the very first time, George offered Zoe a ride... then again in Season 4 on the "End Of Days" episode, but this time Zoe offers George a ride and they used some of the same dialogue as before along with the same song.
