After In Theory...'s hiatus and fizzling-out in the late June of 2011, former members RJ Morgan, Marshall Seely, understudy bassist Brandon Vick, and vocalist Ethan Erickson got together in late Februrary of 2012 to create a new band with a different goal in mind than before: to have fun playing music, as opposed to trying to gain fame. Originally, the band was called Maria Goes to Jordan; the name came from a spur-of-the-moment conversation between Ethan and his co-worker Maria, who was, coincidentally, from the Middle-Eastern state of Jordan. The name was later changed to Where I Left Off because the band felt it was more appropriate for the group. In July of 2013, due to the group's desire to write more complex vocal and bass parts, former The Bonus Tracks bassist Kevin Cashion replaced Ethan Erickson on bass, and Erickson returned to being solely a vocalist.
