Stasis Prey is a 3 piece Zambian rock band from Lusaka founded by lead singer Tumelo. The band currently consists of lead singer Tumelo, Guitarist Chana and bassist Lerato. The band is currently working on their debut EP, while also playing shows around the city.
The band was founded in 2013 by lead singer Tumelo after taking an indefinite hiatus from his previous heavy metal project, Fundamental Element. Stasis Prey was formed as an avenue to explore a different sound with emphasis on abstract lyrics with a positive message. Tumelo recruited Lerato to the band after having worked together on a few of his solo projects and struck up a friendship and musical understanding. A few months later Lerato invited former band member (The Ghost of Samurai Guns) and long time friend Chana to play lead guitar for Stasis Prey and soon after recruited another former band member Bernard to play bass. (Alternating rhythm guitar and bass with Lerato). Rounding off the band was talented drummer, Ted. This formed the lineup of the band in its formative stages until Bernard quit the band due to personal reasons early in 2014. This led to a brief reshuffling that involved incorporating Daniel (Disciple) as rhythm guitarist before the band eventually settled on 4 piece lineup with Tumelo on lead vocals, Chana as the guitarist, Lerato as bassist and Ted on drums. This would be the lineup on the 9th of August, 2014 when the band played their first live show at a fundraising event at Mojo. The band played a further 2 shows, alongside Stardust Avenue and Catch 22, towards the end of 2014 at The Frog in Lusaka, the first being an acoustic set, followed up by a full set with Blake from Glitch standing in on drums. Early in 2015, Ted left the band due to personal reasons and the band has since been playing with stand ins on drums. The band then played an acoustic set at the "Earth Day Birthday" green environment convention at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka alongside Stardust Avenue.
The band is currently working on their debut EP, Sanguine, with renowned Zambian music producer Jonah Banda from which they are yet to release a single for but is tentatively slated for a late 2015/early 2016 independent release.
