Born and raised in Tulsa, OK, Rick was introduced to music and the guitar by his Uncle Don. He began writing his own tunes and started performing them at family reunions as a teen.
He moved to Texas in 1969, and began performing in coffee houses and working behind the scenes in the concert industry in the early 1970s. Rick's work in the music industry put him in the company of many of the greatest artists of our generation, and all the while he continued to perform his own music. In the 1990s, Rick moved to Nashville to pursue a song-writing career and, during that time, also worked various odd jobs from radio DJ and dishwasher to bartender and circus wrangler.
Rick returned to Dallas in 2003, and began performing again in the Dallas/ Ft Worth area. He now performs regularly with Royce David James on mandolin and Paula McClanahan on upright bass and vocals.
In 2013, Rick released his first solo CD, produced by Texas music legend Milo Deering. The recording contains thirteen original songs, twelve of which were written/ co-written by Rick Babb. His lyrics range from sensitive to humorous, from seductive to spiritual. Some tunes are left bare, with only acoustic guitar and vocal arrangements. Other melodies are complex with intricate chord progressions. The rhythms vary from samba to shuffle, and styles stretch from twang to gospel. His performances are engaging and energetic.
Rick's CD, "Startin' from Scratch"', is available for sampling at reverbnation/rickbabb, and for purchase at cdbaby, iTunes, and amazon.
