Jeff Leonard was once asked what kind of songs he writes. His reply: “Yours!” When Jeff sets his sails toward the journey of a new song, he thinks about his listeners, things they’ve told him, and how to encapsulate those feelings into the music he writes. His captivating, warm vocals carry each country-rock tune with such emotion that you won’t soon forget the ride you just experienced. When you hear his music, you’ll think: Darius Rucker meets Blackberry Smoke or Keith Urban meets Lynyrd Skynyrd. When you see him perform, you’ll feel as though you are watching one of the many seasoned professionals in the music business.
Although new to the music scene, Jeff is no stranger to music at all. He started singing at an early age performing at local community centers and singing in the school choir. As he developed his style and love for music, he recalls the influence that came from his grandmother’s console stereo when his parents played albums recorded by: George Jones, Mel Tillis, and Conway Twitty to name a few. The passion heard in the voices of these artists drove Jeff to spread his love of music to others, but he always felt that there was something more. Later in life, Jeff learned that he was a distant relative of Elvis Presley and that’s when he made the decision to fulfill a life-long dream of performing on stage.
His first album titled: “I’ll Take My Chances,” released in the spring of 2008, features songs written by: Casey Beathard and Tom Shapiro and it continues to be a huge seller among his local fan base. Having sold over 2000 copies of his current album in the local clubs and venues he’s played, he plans to start production on a new album that will include many of the songs Jeff has written, including his current release: “I’m Going Home.”
Since his beginning, Jeff’s performances have been received with tremendous enthusiasm at some of the largest venues in-and-around Ohio; including: Screamin’ Willies (Columbus, OH), Roxy’s (Sugar Grove, OH), Digital Region Music Festival (Sugar Grove, OH), Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge (Nashville, TN), Wild Beaver Saloon (Nashville, TN), Albert’s on the Alley (Detroit, MI), Millersport Sweet Corn Festival (Millersport, OH), Moonshine Festival (New Straitsville, OH), Centerburg 4th of July Festival (Centerburg, OH), and the New Music Showcase during CRS 40 and CRS 41 (Nashville, TN) just to name a few.
These local performances have dramatically increased Jeff’s popularity, energized a fan base that excitedly awaits every show, and has enabled him to make appearances supporting many of the National touring artists including: Gretchen Wilson, Craig Morgan, Luke Bryan, Billy Currington, Josh Gracin, LoCash Cowboys, the Dirt Drifters, and many others.
Local performances aside, Jeff’s music has been featured on local radio stations, as well as all over the world. Some of these stations include: WCLT-FM (Newark, OH), WTUZ-FM (Canton, OH), Breeze Radio (Phoenix, AZ), and many other stations from Girona, Spain to Chibaken, Japan and many satellite radio stations as well.
Jeff is now teaming up with some of the finest musicians in Ohio and plans to be playing soon in a venue near you.
