Drone Motive / Bio

From a young age Todd Murray began hearing the sounds of Bill Withers, John Lennon, The Doors, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Genesis, Chuck Berry, Steppenwolf, and Jimi Hendrix from his father’s record player. Like a sponge he soaked up this potent blend ofClassic American Rock and combined with early 90’s Alternative and Grunge Rock of artists like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains from his brothers CD player, he formed his own eclectic sound. In early 2003 his first album “My Story” received airplay on 93.7 WSTW’s Hometown Heroes. His two following albums, “Three Hours of Sleep” and “Search of Brighter Days” gained more airplay on 93.7 WSTW and 93.5 WZBH. Todd performed venues ranging from World Café Live in Philadelphia to The Big Kahuna in Wilmington, connectingwith audiences and playing his heart out, but there was still something missing…

With his earliest memories of Rush, The Scorpions, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Led Zeppelin on the radio to his mother’s fondness for Elvis Presley and Motown to the musical education he received from his father’s cassette tapes, courtesy of ZZ Top, Joe Satriani, Al Di Meola, Steely Dan, and Yes, there has been little doubt of the musical trajectory Derek White’s life would take. Picking up the guitar at 13 and playing live with bands by 15 Derek honed his guitar and performance skills, hoping to findthe musical partner that would foster a long-lasting friendship and undeniable music. It took 6 more years until they found each other, but the raw energy and passion, the undeniable synergy between Todd Murray and Derek White made Murray and White a force with which to be reckoned. They had performed live on 93.5 WZBH’s Local Produce, competed in multiple battle of the bands, played the main stage at the Unicity Arts Festival, and performed from Philadelphia to Charlottesville but found that they still required another element to drive the music home…
After performing with numerous musicians professionally since the age of 15 Garry Price was seasoned and eager to return to the stage after his 2 year holiday from the industry. Influenced more by life than other music specifically Garry continues to expand his sound through a multitude of various styles homing in on exactly what his fellow artists need to complete the bands organic sound. After getting behind his drumkit to drive this band the group was still seeking a missing element...
Duncan West grew up in a musical family. Living in Dallas and Nashville as a child, he was raised on Blues and R&B. He started playing bass at 12 years old, and hasn’t stopped since, playing everything from metal and reggae to delta blues. As a fourth generation musician, he brings natural groove and power to anything he plays. Naturally the group found its musical bridge finally taking the same stage for the first time on May 4th 2012. Suprised by the response to the bands writing and brief rehearsals the group has decided to make this set up a permanant musical staple for all to enjoy.
