The name Ayana Aquila invokes images of style, artistic integrity, international mystique and the classic Renaissance woman. Educated in the Washington DC area in an array of international schools and privately trained in a wide variety of dance styles, the choral arts and literary studies; media and visual arts has been a resounding theme running through her entire life. Whether it be an eye for color and form when studying at the Corcoran school of art, working with mixed media painting and abstract art or photography; the direction has always been ever forward. Learning to hone the technique of stage performance while studying Shakespearian stage both in the US and with professors at the royal Shakespearian Company in England. Both classical stage work and improvisational she would find useful as her career endeavors began to take shape. While starting both her modeling and writing careers she began the first entries in her ever growing song book and became more and more drawn to music, taking in sounds and artist from all over the world as her muses. In here travels she also discovered her passion for yet another creative medium, the culinary arts and everywhere she went she took time to learn local dishes from different chefs and food historians.
Her first recording projects and subsequent concerts only increased her desire to communicate with the world with music. She was fortunate enough to have opportunities to work both in the US and Europe, while developing her style and flare; a sense of style that many have yet to try to define and that left the music industry wondering how to label her.
After 9-11 her focus shifted to storytelling and the visual of film. And Ayana worked screenwriting and acting in New York. During this time she also took her love of food to create a line of organic BBQ sauces and began pulling together a collection of her paintings and mixed media sculptures. The desire to create something new for the world to share was getting stronger and she found her first love music, calling once again. Ever adding to her songbook, a new sound emerged, a sound that Ayana believes is the most honest work of her career; songs that she knows that her longtime fans have been longing to hear.
Never losing her passion for film, she scripted and directed a few independent short films which helped her when it came time to direct her own first music video. The experience fueling the drive to direct feature film and the music videos of other artists.
She has worked hard to maintain her reputation of credibility, dedication and unyielding professionalism; never wanting to turn away from new challenging opportunities or delivering work she can always be proud of.
Now is a time of rebirth and Ayana Aquila is once again ready to step up to the mike and be heard. She hopes you are all ready to continue the journey with her and enjoy this new evolution
