Frank Velardo is a very unique blues guitarist and songwriter. Since he started playing at age 12, he has been writing songs, improvising and performing. Now at almost 30 years old, he has developed a very authentic and personal voice that stands humbly alongside those that have come before him. For his own project, he is an incredible front-man with a commanding stage presence. As a side-man, he is professional and supportive. In both cases, he is as entertaining to watch as he is to listen to.
Trying to sound like his idols, mainly Clapton and Hendrix, functioned as a terrific gateway into the world of improvised music. It lead to heavily studying jazz, theory, rhythm, harmony world and avant-garde music and in 2010, Frank graduated from Temple University with a degree in Jazz Performance. He performs regularly around Philadelphia, and he teaches guitar and piano to diverse group of students.
In October, 2012 Frank released his first collection of original music, The Ardvark Felon. It is comprised of original tunes that not only showcase his ability as a guitarist and vocalist, but also as a composer and songwriter. How he chooses to use the different elements he has at his disposal is truly innovative. Nobody is playing the blues quite like this. It is very exciting to hear something this fresh. It is currently available digitally.
