The organic, acoustic sound of Some Train Yard is rooted in the music of a time gone by. The band plays mostly original material, songs with a nod toward the golden days of country, acoustic blues and traditional bluegrass. The short list of covers includes songs from Robert Johnson, Sonny Boy Williamson, Johnny Cash, Bob Wills, mickey Newberry and other legendary American songwriters. “Words make you think a thought. Music makes you feel a feeling. A song makes you feel a thought.” The songs of Some Train Yard make you feel a thought – an ear-pleasing blend of old & new.
Bret Billings - a staple in the Colorado music scene for 35 years. Bret plays Dobro, National steel guitar and authentic blues harmonica. His love of country music, particularly the old school brand, and his deep interest in blues and bluegrass allow him to bring a variety of styles to the band. Bret also busts out his vocal chops for some gritty versions of down home, acoustic blues. Bret is the “man-of-steel “ with Halden Wollford and the Hi Beams.
Eric Drobny – great tone and time make Eric a much sought after upright bass player. Additionally, Eric sings sweet and highly complimentary harmonies. He does studio work with a number of recoding artists and plays regularly with a variety of folks in addition to his work with Some Train Yard. Eric and Kevin D. have been playing and singing together for more than 10 years and their time together is evident in their “brother-like” harmonies.
Kevin Yost – “Yank” Yost has been around the Colorado acoustic scene for many years. He is a seasoned performer and great recording engineer. Kevin plays mandolin, swing guitar, lead guitar and lends his talent for hearing “the whole song” to bring arrangements to final fruition. Yank and Bret B. were both founding members of the Hi-Beams and the two of them have played off and on together for more years than they care to mention.
Kevin DeForrest –a songwriters songwriter. His songs are “beautiful, witty, thoughtful, and above all honest. His songs make you feel and think very differently about things you've felt and thought all your life." Kevin plays rhythm guitar, sings most of the lead and uses his knack for story-telling to front the band.
