Singer and songwriter Joseph Lyle uses a six string acoustic guitar. His technique is a tasteful blend of slap/finger-style/percussive guitar. He plays in a broad range of alternate tunings and is influenced by artists like Michael Hedges, Sergio Altamura, and Glen Hansard.
Joseph Lyle was born on the eleventh of July in Oak Harbor, Washington on Whidbey Island. He has always been surrounded with music, even from within the womb as his mother would play the harp. He first began playing the drums at age thirteen and performed with his first rock band "Envoy" during his teen years. Up until just a few years ago he had only plucked a guitar here or there and played little tunes on the piano, but it all took a huge turn when he purchased his first guitar! Joseph started playing the guitar three years ago in the winter of 2009 and quickly discovered an instrument that his heart connected with and that he felt he could use as a tool to re-create the music he was hearing inside of his head. His music is much like a reflection of his life, there are high points and low points, trails and errors, romances and heartaches, mysteries and adventures! Each time he holds his guitar, whether just to play alone in his room or to perform on stage, he begins to pour out his heart through "Havila" (his guitar). His music is raw and very emotionally intense, glowing in colors of artful expression! He believes that music is only a tool that should be used to express something greater…Art. Joseph has taught himself to play the guitar and his techniques pull from many influences including Classical, Choral, Folk, Rock and many many others to help create the modern finger-style/percussive sound that comes out when he plays. Many of his songs are purposely stripped down to music with no lyrics to help convey specific emotions that might otherwise be polluted by lyrics and the other songs that do contain lyrics are emotionally sung straight from his heart through his soaring tenor vocals. Currently Joseph is recording his first solo acoustic album "A Walk With The Leaves". Joseph also performed in the Boise folk group, "The Early Grey" for two years and currently alongside his solo project leads vocals in the Indie/Rock band "A Sea Of Glass". Now, residing in Boise Idaho, Joseph plans on writing, playing, and touring indefinitely.
