Guitarist Jason Lohman and drummer/vocalist Spencer Stevens met through the University of Oregon dorms in 2008 one year before starting the band Stein. Even though having only two original songs to their name the band entered the local music scene quickly gaining a small but loyal following through energetic performances with fun covers and a growing catalog of goofy material.
Stevens and Lohman respectively took on the aliases Joe and Larry Steiner, and attempted to create a quirky yet very serious revival of classic rock that has lain dormant within this century so far. They strove to become the go-to drunken, house party band, complete with extended jamming, obscure covers, and a minimal set of original material, yet still maintain the oddball nature that has existed since the days of the garage. They have played countless locations within the Eugene area including Cozmic Pizza, The Wandering Goat, Black Forest Bar and Grill, and not to mention several house parties such as the infamous and annual Wasted In Wonderland, which attracted over 300 people and consisted of a 5 band lineup.
In the summer of 2011 the duo recorded their first LP entitled Lost in the Underground. After 2 years and one album as a two-piece, Stein decided to expand and added bassist Nolan Williams to the mix and the three have been constantly gigging ever since as well as writing new songs for their much anticipated sophomore album, to be released next year.
