Fisum T, an emerging Habesha artist, is an Atlanta-based singer and songwriter who captivates his listeners with his beautiful Amharic songs that celebrate friendship, happiness and love. Many find his songs very comforting and uplifting.
Though his influences come from different musical backgrounds, Fisum sings in a style that is uniquely his own. Every song that he sings is an old memory that sends him back to his childhood; so he takes it very personal, and sings it from the heart.
Born and raised in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, Fisum moved to the United States in 2003, settling in the Atlanta area. Though he began writing poetry at a young age, he had never thought that he could sing until he participated in an Ethiopian Idol competition, organized in Atlanta in 2007, which he surprisingly won. The competition helped him discover his true passion.
Fisum now pursues his passion for music full time. He has already released three singles, working with well known Ethiopian producers and arrangers such as Teddy Mak, Amanuel Yilma, Michael Hailu, Dawit Tilahun, and Million Lakew—most of these producers have composed music for popular Ethiopian singers like Teddy Afro, Aster Aweke, Abraham Gebremedhin, Zeritu Kebede, and many others. Describing his love for music, he says: “I’ve set aside time to sing write and listen to music each day. I listen to music so often that when I’m not listening to it, I find rhythms in footsteps, doors closing and the sound of traffic''
Fisum’s fan base is growing in Ethiopia as well as overseas. He was featured on few popular radio stations in Addis Abeba, when he first released his hit single “Melkam Lidet.” He later on added “Qenna,” which gave him further exposure. These songs have been played in various radio stations on both sides of the Atlantic. He has recently produced a third single, “Asebeshalehu,” which was officially released on Youtube, and its viewership is growing fast every day.
Fisum is energetic and passionate who easily captures the attention of young Habesha listeners who identify with his songs of love and peace for everyone and his beloved birthplace. He affectionately writes, “If I can do it, I will grab all my belongings and leave tonight to the place I love the most, Agerbet.” A friendly and humble individual, Fisum is a promising young artist who has a lot to offer! He is currently working on a new album, which will be out soon, so keep your eyes and ears ope
