High school classmates Ron Powell, Dan Dunaway, Chris Jones, Jason Hawks and Scotty “Scooter” Clariday embarked on a venture that is “Mama Tried”. In 2009, the band brought to life a dream where their sound rocks packed venues through out middle Tennessee.
“Mama Tried” mixes their original rock anthems as well as blues/soul ballads. Live shows are a must see and hear. Arising from Metallica to Jason Aldean, the band fuses raw and edgy sounds musically and lyrically. For a rocking time, spend an evening with “Mama Tried”. Original songs like “Circles” illustrate a danceable, upbeat tempo whereas “Anymore” showcases the raw, painful edge of heartbreak.
Band members of “Mama Tried” share a love of rock music. Lead vocalist, Ron Alan Powell’s range extends from a gravely baritone to high tenor. Dan Dunaway provides solid lead guitar tracks along with harmonies and background vocals. Drummer Chris Jones has opened up for members of Cinderella back in 2006 and lends a visual show not to mention the sticks. Bass Guitarist, Scotty “Scooter” Clariday has a stage presence that paints a musical picture for all who sees. Lead guitarist Jason Hawks showcases blazing guitar licks and solos. As for their original creations, all band members provide musical and lyrical creativity.
After the release of their debut EP, Well Misbehaved, Mama Tried has just released their 1st full length album. "Thicker Than Water". The album features the first single "Loraine". The album was recorded at Underdog Studios in Nashville TN, by producer D.a. Karkos (John Corabi, Jerry Gaskill of King's X) and mixed by Cheney Brannon (Collective Soul, John Corabi).
