"That was a really fabulous performance!" - Steve Reich (Pulitzer Prize-winning Composer) upon hearing McPike's performance of Reich's own work, 'Electric Counterpoint'
"That was the best Rotary Club meeting I've been to in 30 years" -Retired Judge, Michael Eldred - after McPike & Burton's performance for the Rotary Club on 1/3/12.
B.G. McPike and Solly Burton will help you travel to places to which you never knew how badly you wanted to go - without making you leave your seat. We are to acoustic music what Batman and Robin are to fighting crime, except we are real! What's more - we are bound by neither masks nor labels (sorry entertainment execs and A & R peeps, we're happy where we are for now).
Solly Burton is a Two-time Winfield National Mandolin Champion (2007, aged 16, and 2011). He has appeared on NPR's from the Top, and several other radio programs from Illinois and Indiana to upstate New York.
In May, 2008, B.G. McPike was presented with the 'BRAVO' THE ARTS award by Arts Illiana for Professional Artist of the Year ('07/'08).
March, 2009: BG McPike and Dan Sumner performed at the Brownsville, TX Guitar Ensemble Festival/Competition where they claimed 'First Prize Professional Duo'.
November, 2009: McPike performed multiple Pulitzer-Prize winning composer Steve Reich's 'Electric Counterpoint' for guitar and tape at Indiana State University's Contemporary Music Festival. Reich himself, having been present at the concert proclaimed "That was really a fabulous performance!"
Sept. 3, 2011: McPike and Burton both competed in the Indiana State Fiddling and Picking contests at Princeton, IN where McPike took first place in the Tumbpicking Guitar Contest and Burton took first place in the Flatpicking Guitar Contest.
Spring, 2013: Burton won the Tennessee State Flatpicking Guitar championship.
May 2013 and beyond: who knows???
If you read this far, I'll give you a free BG McPike & the Haute Club CD recording called ' Bluephoria' from 2009 if you're one of the first 50 to read it all - just hit me up for it! The only catch is: you have to answer a question about dates and years of one of the awards above - just to make sure you read it (you see, I am a college music instructor - so I like quizzing)
