Thrash lead guitarist goes modern rock-alternative with lion_drome. The debut CD, Curve of the Earth was released in Summer of 2014. lion_drome has elements of upbeat U2, melancholy Porcupine Tree, romantic Jeff Buckley and 80s synth pop rock ala The Cars and Duran Duran. Predictably, lead guitars get their place to shine all over lion_drome songs. Hell, even ex-Megadeth guitar mestro Chris Poland makes his ripping presence known on an extended mix of title track, Curve of the Earth.
So where did this come from and who is behind it? Vocalist/guitarist ML has had his imprint on several notable bands and projects before lion_drome including a ten year stint as the main songwriter and lead guitarist in acclaimed Colorado thrash band, GasHead. When the band had run its course due to increasingly difficult logistics, ML started formulating the influential connective tissue that would become a definite left turn musically. Influences like the aformentioned U2, Porcupine Tree, Jeff Buckley, The Cars as well as , Duran Duran and Ours set him down this path in the early part of 2012. Now a live core of Mike Lopez, Mark Foerster (bass), Derek Maness (Guitar) and Matt Gotlin-Sheehan (Drums) is taking the material live in 2015. Look for them along the Front Range this year.
