Bad Years / Bio

Bad Years is an edgy but melodic punk rock quartet from Little Rock, AR whose sound blends layered rock guitars with vocals reminiscent of those of Keith Morris and Blake Schwarzenbach, among others. Vocalist and rhythm guitarist Mike Pollock, drummer John Wright, and bassist Joe Pollock began working together around 2010.
In February 2011, Bad Years performed their first show at a west Little Rock fitness center during a benefit for The Muscular Dystrophy Association. The band began performing in surrounding areas, frequenting venues like Juanita's, Vino’s Brewpub, Downtown Music Hall, and Conway’s Soundstage while developing close relationships with other bands of the Little Rock music scene like Frown Pow'r, The Big Cats, The Supporting Cast, The Sesh, and Crooked Roots. In June of 2011, the band performed on the riverfront at the Belvedere, a landmark of the early Little Rock punk scene.
Mike Pollock left Little Rock to attend the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in August of that year. Instead of calling it quits because of distance issues, the band decided to progress themselves even further as Mike happily made the 3 hour drive on weekends to play shows. It was around this time that the band decided to record their first demos.
In January of 2012, the band added Jakob Hooks to play lead guitar. By February, With Jakob’s dynamic and melodic guitar playing at the forefront, their sound began to solidify.
In the summer of 2012, Burt Taggart, owner and operator of Max Recordings and the frontman of The Big Cats, asked Bad Years and Crooked Roots to make a split "7 which was later released in June of 2013. In January of 2013, the band made it to the semi-finals in the much sought after, annual Arkansas Times Musician's Showcase. The band's performance was welcomed with favorable reviews. However, the showcase gig would be John Wright's last before leaving the band in February. Bassist Joe Pollock then moved to the kit and Walt Peterson of Crooked Roots was recruited to take over bass duties.
