Black Market III--formed in the Fall of 2011 by Scottie ‘Mad Dog’ Blinn, former front man for the multi-award winning iconic San Diego band The Mississippi Mudsharks. He has been no stranger to doing 300+ nights a year with his former band, and is pushing Black Market III every bit as hard, if not harder.
Black Market III has quickly turned into a red hot band focused on playing hard hitting, soulful Blues, American Roots, and Rock (the vein of Social Distortion and the Clash). BMIII was touted as "the band to watch" by Dave Good of the San Diego Reader, and was nominated their first year for a 2012 San Diego Music Award (BEST BLUES).
Their first full length CD, ‘Songs That Shake The Cage’, was released in the summer of 2012, accompanied by European and U.S. touring and playing shows with the likes of Rick Derringer and Roni Lee (The Runaways). It was named as one of the “Top 5 CD’s 2012” by SD Rock ‘n’ Roll, received a 2013 San Diego Music Award Nomination for "BEST ROCK ALBUM", and has received airplay worldwide.
The band released their 2nd CD, "Black Roses" in Sept. of 2013, accompanied by Western U.S. tour dates and a 5 week Fall European tour, playing 24 shows in 30 nights and spreading over 4 countries. 2014 finds the band widening their US tour routes, and heading to Europe for two festival and club date tours of Europe and the UK for a total of 4 months! 'Black Roses' was nominated for a 2014 San Diego Music Award for "BEST BLUES ALBUM", and is receiving critical acclaim worldwide.
In 2015, the band is playing non-stop on the road in the Western U.S., and getting set to embark on a 3 month, 9 country European tour in support of their new CD, "Vanarchy • Live •".
Black Market III crosses over, using the Blues as the root of the sound. In addition to their original music, BMIII features more obscure covers from Tom Waits, Wayne Walker, Hank Williams Sr., Leadbelly, Dead Weather, Social Distortion, and many more. No pigeon holing this band--Blues and American Roots firmly planted, yet not like anything you've heard or seen before. The band prides itself on it's ability to perform diversely and dynamically, playing full blown concerts to small 'stripped down' semi-acoustic shows, traditional blues to their trademarked ‘Grease Punk’ sound.
Scottie 'Mad Dog' Blinn--former front man for the Mississippi Mudsharks with multiple San Diego Music Awards and nominations (3 wins, 15 nominations), European blues chart topping CD‘s (Two #1’s, a #3, and a #4 on the CrossCut Blues Chart), as well as 20+ years of experience gigging, recording, and touring the States and Europe (15th Euro tour Fall 2014). Scottie has played with and opened for some of the biggest names in the business, including Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Willie Nelson, Buddy Guy, George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars, Brian Setzer (Stray Cats), Dr. John, Dick Dale, Kim Wilson (Fabulous Thunderbirds), Anson Funderburgh (Texas Blues Guitar Legend)…and many more!
Roxy Coverdale--rock solid bassist discovered by Scottie 'Mad Dog’ Blinn. Roxy's grooves are 4 lanes wide, and her vocals are a perfect complement to Scottie's. She lays down the solid foundation for the band's sound, and her featured songs have become crowd favorites at BMIII shows.
After parting ways with their most current drummer, Black Market III is currently seeking the right drummer for the job. Until then many shows will be performed as the duo or with respectable fill-in drummers, including Jackson Blinn, who at 17 years old is already a serious and seasoned pro adept at many styles. Growing up with and learning from several of San Diego's best drummers including Dave Uosikkinen of the Hooters and Tom Essa of The Mississippi Mudsharks, Jackson was already playing professionally and packing rooms in his own Blues band at age 14. "Wyatt Lowe & The Youngbloods" was a featured standout at the 2013 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN.
Black Market III has endorsement deals with Boulder Creek Guitars, Quilter Amplification, Dunlop Guitar Accessories, and Motor Cult Kustom Kulture Clothes
