Sawyer Family / Bio

The Sawyer Family, from Eugene, Oregon, began playing live shows in the year 2000 shortly after the release of their breakthrough, Scary as Hell. Within months, their songs became widely requested on local radio, and they began to draw larger crowds throughout the Eugene area. With the release of their first full length album, The Sawyer Family Album, in 2003, they began to hit their stride. The record went to number one on the local request charts and they began receiving offers for shows across the Northwest. Their blend of rock and roll, early punk, honky tonk, rockabilly, and surf seemed to appeal, with songs about sex, booze, and horror mixed with a dash of campy humor.
By 2005, They released their second full length album Why Did God Create The Sawyer Family?. The songs turned to topics of the monsters inside all of us, gruesome stories of murder, and internal torment. The album added a greater focus on guitar harmonies, double bass, and put three vocalists in rotation. Why Did God Create The Sawyer Family? went to number one on the Eugene request charts and attracted offers from independent record labels around the nation. This was music sick enough for the degenerates, and melodic enough for the distinguished.
Their most recent record, The Burning Times, was released in 2008. Recorded at the legendary Distillery with all analog production, it evokes the classic records of the sixties and seventies with an ambient live room sound. It features stunning arrangements all recorded live on a cocktail of cigarettes, beer, and whiskey. These songs improve upon their penchant for debauchery. Subjects such as Egyptian gods, witch burnings, and ancient European butchers are featured topics.
With the critical acclaim of The Burning Times, The Sawyer Family toured extensively around the U.S.. They have currently played 40 states and over 400 shows in three years. At this time they are on the road about 6-7 months a year.
