Los Angeles, CA - After a first sold out presentation, Brazilian Heart Music proudly presents once more, Brazilian Woman, A Celebration. This is the fifth in an annual series of shows created and produced by Kátia Moraes, paying homage to renowned artists from Brazil. This year's celebration brings to Los Angeles the music and of Brazil's female singer/songwriters, presented by female Brazilian artists living in Los Angeles. The music will be accompanied by poems and lyrics in English and Portuguese, as well as writings by some of the most important women in Brazilian history. The show will also highlight singer/songwriter Rita Lee, who is celebrating her 50th anniversary as a performing artist. To quote Moraes, "My intention this year is to introduce important female Brazilian artists to the Los Angeles audience. These women have been inspiring new generations of poets, writers, songwriters, translators, and even politicians since the 19th century. Amazing talented women, such as prolific pianist/maestro Chiquinha Gonzaga (the first female maestro,) and international award-winning poet Adelia Prado, as well as rock queen Rita Lee, who this year celebrates 50 years of artistic career. Kátia Moraes always strives to present innovative and excellent Brazilian music to Southern Californian audiences. Ms. Moraes has sung with international stars like Oscar Castro Neves, Sergio Mendes, and Airto Moreira. Her four previous "Celebrations" were dedicated to Elis Regina (2012), Clara Nunes (2013), Maria Bethânia (2014), and Noel Rosa (2015). Some of the reasons you should join us THIS Friday: "Brazilian Women, a Celebration" directed by Brazilian singer and composer Katia Moraes brings together some of the most talented women's voices in Southern California. This is a rare opportunity to see on stage at once so many talented Brazilian artists with such unequaled, rich and diverse repertoire. It is, indeed, a celebration of women through the artistry of Brazilian voices!” Sergio Mielniczenko “To anyone who wants to be uplifted in the spirit of Brazilian joy I recommend Katia Moraes' show "Brazilian Women - a Celebration". Be prepared to sing your hearts out even if you don't know the language! The songs are so catchy and upbeat that you feel compelled to join the chorus and be part of the fun. A fabulous group of talented singers with rich voices journey your soul through the classic hits of bossa nova, samba, rock and pop paying homage to Brazil's women composers. Bouncy tunes alternate with inspiring poems by famous women writers and the result is a show that is both delicious and invigorating with the passion, quests and unique charisma of Brazilian femininity.” Anna Penido, writer, filmmaker “I had so much fun at this wonderful show! This is another supersonic celebration put together by Katia Moraes - including not only Katia’s high energy and deep connection with the audience, but also a delicious combination of different moods, flavors, styles, and personalities of 11 incredible artists and performers. Songs and spoken-word selections were perfectly timed to showcase the variety of material and fantastic talent. It was a packed house, and the artists’ deep sincerity, warmth, humor, and compassionate heart filled the room. Some parts were serious, some funny, some sad, some happy, but no matter the mood or style, every part was filled with the kind of loving energy that embraces all of life. Celebrate life! Don’t miss this show!” Shanti Cross “Why you should go to a repeat performance of Brazilian Woman, A Celebration on April 15: It is powerful, it is delightful, it is creative, it is 11 extraordinary Brazilian women who have chosen to make deep roots in Los Angeles who share their hearts, their artistry, their wit, their powerful voices, their souls, their challenges and their triumphs as Brazilian women, as female citizens of the world. It's lovely, it's joyful, its full of oranges, lilting voices and it's about beauty, it's about injustice, it's about equality. It's music in motion, poetry in song! Viva the female voice (s)! Under Katia Moraes' distinct artistic direction - full of verve and love. Get there early- it will sell out.” Linda Yudin Brazilian Women, A Celebration is filled with the music, rhythm and colors of Brazil.
