John Cowan, known as the Voice of Newgrass, is one of the most loved and admired vocal artists of his generation, not just by fans and critics, but among fellow musicians, as well. www.JOHNCOWAN.com John Cowan and his New Grass Revival band mates Sam Bush, Bela Fleck and Pat Flynn introduced a new generation of music fans to an explosive, experimental brand of bluegrass…Newgrass…which essentially played contemporary music on traditional instruments with enough talent, style and energy to make it unforgettable. After NGR disbanded in 1990, Cowan toured with the the Doobie Bros. for a bit, but soon returned to his Newgrass roots and formed the John Cowan Band, surrounding himself with only the finest acoustic musicians. That line up now includes Jeff Autry on guitar, John Frazier on mandolin, Shad “Lightning” Cobb on fiddle and, in larger venues, Bryon Larrance on percussion – all some of the best in the world. Now recapturing the magic of that ground-breaking experimentation and taking it to the next level, John invites old NGR fans to come to a JCB jam and see for yourself how magically his ‘sound’ has morphed over the miles and years since his New Grass Revival days! There’s one at ‘The Moon’ tonight!
