About

The Daylights are a commanding three-piece emerging from the neon lights of Los Angeles, CA. Known for their giant melodies and cinematic sound, the band makes epic, passionate rock without being melodramatic or ingenuine. The Daylights’ debut release Shift and Blur EP showcased a melding of classic and modern influences, unafraid and optimistic, inviting comparisons to the likes of U2 and Kings of Leon, Pink Floyd and Radiohead.
The close-knit group is made up of brothers Ran (guitars/vocals/keys) and Ricky Jackson (bass/vocals/guitars) and drummer Svend Lerche, of Denmark. Although they do consider themselves an indie rock band, one could say they don’t really seem like much of an indie rock band at all. The opportunities have been nothing short of extraordinary for an independent band. Not only do they have an enormous fan base in their hometown, with the ability to pack rooms like Hollywood’s House of Blues, but they have been touted as LA’s most underrated band by top selling artists such as Katy Perry, Switchfoot, Collective Soul and OneRepublic. OneRepublic personally asked them to join them on their massive Dreaming Out Loud tour for 3 months, and currently they are the direct support for Katy Perry’s sold-out American tour, after she was quoted as wanting to bring one of her favorite bands on her first-ever headlining tour.
The band appeared on “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” just days after Craig saw them play the legendary Viper Room, and have found themselves collaborating with hit-makers like Linda Perry and Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen/The Bird and the Bee), Switchfoot, The Wallflowers, Carolina Liar, Shiny Toy Guns, Our Lady Peace, Collective Soul, Your Vegas, and Tonic, to name a few.
The Daylights’ songs are currently featured in a host of movies and TV shows (Grandma’s Boy, Palo Alto, the theme song to ABC’s The Big Day, One Tree Hill, Las Vegas, Providence, Laguna Beach, etc.), and have even been enshrined in the video game world with a cult following through The Sims.
The guys are notorious for writing incessantly, being just as much inspired by the literary greats (esp. Steinbeck, Rilke and Dostoyevsky) as they are by the melodic ones. What truly sets their music apart is that they actually have something to say:
“I stole a car in my head, just to give a friend a lift, up the coast, somewhere close to San Fran. I robbed a bank just for love, to give to those who don’t have much… take the cash, buy life back, I’ll take the heat.”
- from “If Words Were Bullets”
“Standing on the edge of a beginning and an end…so this is what it feels like… the 87th floor of a high rise in New York...ah, but there’s something new this time.”
- from “Outsider”
The band has been working with an unbelievable star cast, having just returned from London recording their international debut release with super producer, Youth (Paul McCartney, U2, The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony”), working alongside executive producer, Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic, Leona Lewis) and revered engineer, Darrell Thorp (Radiohead, Beck, Air).
Let’s say it’s hardly a long shot to say you’ll be hearing more of The Daylights very, very soon.
