Futurity is an original indie-rock musical by The Lisps, a Brooklyn-based co-ed assemblage of 21st century theater-prone indie rockers whose songs border the literary and borrow liberally from vaudeville, Anti-Folk, science fiction, and Americana. Within a theatrically-staged song cycle, Futurity fuses found text, experimental music, and The Lisps' own brand of quirky pop to tell the story of a Union soldier in the Civil War who is an aspiring inventor. The Lisps hyperactive performances typically involve bloody tambourines, wrestling, lipstick-smeared melodicas, old filing cabinets, and film reels suspended by rusty chains. This event also involves a massive, custom-built drum rig that towers over the stage.
