GABRIEL KAIN & THE ABLES
Hailing from Slovakia, Gabriel Kain calls his blend of Eastern European folk stylings and rock 'n' roll cabaret “Baroque and Roll” but its churlish to categorise it much at all. The songs combine lyrical romanticism and themes of displacement with the best kind of foot-stomping jigs you might find in an absinth bar anywhere from Paris to Peking. The waltzing violas take you somewhere back in time but you're never quite sure where...
MAD STARING EYES
In 2006, Mad Staring Eyes won the John Peel award for 'Best New Band' and played Glastonbury Festival. But this is just one accolade in a lengthy existence. They 've toured several different continents, released four albums to date, and generally lived the wandering lifestyle most acoustic-style acts barely dream of. Mad Staring Eyes take standard influences from indie, country, folk and rock 'n' roll and mould them into something that tugs at your heartstrings as much as your bootlaces. Mad Staring Eyes are about to release their fourth album.
This acoustic trio have been livening the Most Rated site with their modern blend of folk melodies and social insights. A male/female duo at once wistful and uplifting, they definitely required your attention. As “Elephant In The Room“ puts it lyrically:”...I close my eyes and there's nothing really wrong at all.”
