Cathy Lemons is a blues singing legend who has performed regularly in the Bay Area for 25 years. She has been described as “the finest light-skinned female blues vocalist in the U.S” (Real Blues 2010) with a “velvety and hypnotic voice—resonant of “a female Howlin’ Wolf” (Fulltimeblues). Hailing from Dallas, TX she honed her chops with the likes of Anson Funderburg and performed with Stevie Ray Vaughan. She has worked with some of the great names in blues including John Lee Hooker (she toured as his send-off singer in 1987), Tommy Castro, Ron Thompson, Kid Andersen, Steve Freund, and many others.
In her new Squeeze Play/Vizztone release, BLACK CROW, Cathy and her band hone the vibrant gospel, blues, and R&B traditions of her native Texas into a woman’s love rights for the new milennium. Adding the rich flavors of Memphis soul, James Brown funk, and sweet Delta blues,
Recorded at Greaseland Studios in San Jose with co-producer “Kid” Andersen, along with guest musicians Doug “Mr. Low” James (Roomful Of Blues, Jimmie Vaughan) and highly respected guitarist, VizzTone artist Volker Strifler, Cathy has recorded what is indeed her best work ever.
BLUES BYTES (GRAHAM CLARKE) "With Black Crow, Cathy Lemons should receive some much-deserved attention far beyond the Bay Area. She’s a talented and honest vocalist that doesn’t have to shout and scream to get her point across."
REFLECTIONS IN BLUE (BILL WILSON) "One thing is certain…once you hear her, you will be a fan for life. This is music with a timeless quality that will have all the hitting power twenty years down the road that it does today."
MIDWEST RECORD (CHRIS SPECTOR)"Smoking, velvet soul blues that’s right in the pocket throughout, Lemons impresses throughout with this mighty release. A winner throughout."
