We conclude our trifecta with the Tommy Malone Trio on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 8 pm. Tommy, the leader of the subdudes, is a phenomenal songwriter, singer and guitarist whose Louisiana roots permeate his music. He is equally adept at Americana, bayou basted roots, southern R&B, blues and a taste of country, all of which served him well with the subdudes and propelled him into his evolving musical career. His mesmerizing soulful vocals are reminiscent of Jimmy Hall, his superb songwriting along the lines of Randall Bramblett, and his intricate guitar work an amalgamation of styles as diverse as his songwriting. Can't tie him down to a particular genre; however, southern soul and R&B are consistent themes. Whatever you call it, Tommy displays his considerable talents with captivating rhythms, artful guitar play and a voice that draws in the listener with each song. Not standard BBC blues fare but outstanding musical offerings. Another don't miss within the intimate surroundings of the BBC. One 90 minute show so folks wont have to stay out late.
