About

Description: This, Bluegrass CD project for Sapling Grove, shows their ability to do songs from many different musical genres, from the traditional “Cora Is Gone” and “Sweet Sunny South” to more contemporary material such as “Friend Of The Devil”.

Bio: Original members of the band were Mack Blevins, Ray Dearstone, Dan Carty, and Sam Witcher. Bobby Lester (former Bluegrass Boy) joined the band to play fiddle soon after it was formed and played until his death in 1996. Current members are: Ray Dearstone on bass, Tony Mowell on guitar, Randy Singleton on banjo and Gary Moore on mandolin. Sapling Grove is a band that has been around through many years and different incarnations of the group. They have the ability to do songs from many different musical genres. Anyone knows that some of the best bluegrass musicians come from the East Tennessee/ Southwest Virginia area and Sapling Grove holds up that proud tradition very well. There is a lot of talent here, most everyone in the group plays more than one instrument and Tony, Randy, Gary and Ray each take their turn at the lead vocals. Sapling Grove has been writing new songs and incorporating them into their repertoire. Their cover songs range from Bill Monroe to John Prine.
