The Reptile Palace Orchestra are genre-blenders of the highest degree, mixing Balkan melodies and rhythms of Eastern Europe with elements of funk, punk, and good o' rock n' roll! Sultry torch songs, sideways "Reptilized" rock covers, and outstanding original tunes all lie in the lexicon of The Reptile Palace Orchestra. While borrowing from sources as diverse as Bach, Arabic Maqa'am, and 1930s classic blues, the band is edgy, bawdy and whimsical. The band's 5 members feature the lovely Rebecca Sites's vocals, the deft piano of Blake Gilmore and the sweet guitar work of Alec Stanley, with Josh "Doogie" Venden delivering the bomb ll,bass (upright and electric) and "Miracle Max" Earl Shoemaker tapping and thrashing on the skins. They have been swinging around the wilds of Madison Wisconsin since 2005. Patchwork Monkey puts on a whimsical visual spectacle when they play live ... The light-hearted and joyful performances belie the dark subject matter of death... and pain. Of course, the sexy songs are cheerful. And people dance to it, so it's cool.   Spring into science at Madison Children’s Museum’s September 28 installment of Adult Swim. Enjoy hands-on experiments and guest presentations on a colorful array of topics. Slither up to the rooftop for a dose of Balkan Lounge Funk with the Reptile Palace Orchestra. No, we don’t have a swimming pool, but we’ll honor the time-honored “adult swim” tradition at public pools as we kick the kids out so adults can have the museum to themselves. Adult Swim is a great event to attend with coworkers, friends or family! Wine, beer, and Roman Candle pizza will be available for purchase. Climb the Hodgepodge Mahal, drive the Punch Buggy, and take in the work of more than 120 local artists who contributed pieces to the new museum.
