“When the Reviews Ed sent this debut CD my way he said it was “Tasty” and he wasn’t wrong. A very British-sounding release with a strong prog edge and a brooding atmosphere. Paul Mace’s vocals have a haunting, slightly detached feel, more prog than metal. ‘Rise’ has a very Dio/early Rainbow air of menace to it. This track was produced by Beau Hill who obviously heard something he thought was special. The record is further enhanced by some glorious guitar playing from Chris Gyngell who mixes solid riffs with emotive solos, which are often such an integral part of good prog. The solos on ‘Before The Dawn’, ‘Life To A Flame’ and the title track ‘The Darkest Star’ are worth the price of admission alone. Definitely worth checking out if you like classic metal, rock and prog. It builds amosphere and draws you in deeper with each listen. The rock and metal influences combine to offer something fresh. They’re a new voice in British prog and it looks like Reason’s ‘”

“This début album showcases an exciting, soulful atmosphere with powerful riffs, driving rhythms, infectious vocal melodies, mood-creating keyboards, excellent song-writing and intelligent arrangements, all supported by some very fine drumming. It does sound like a winning formula, eh? And the result is quite impressive; a dark and dense melodic hard rock album with progressive influences, psychedelic moments and doom metal feel to it. Having said that, it lifts me up in a strange way too… I couldn’t solve this dilemma of doom and gloom lifting me up.
