I'm not sure why this bothers me, but I have a problem with artists here on RN who only share clips of their tunes. I do get that most people do not have the attention span to listen to the entire song anyway, but as an independent artist, I feel you take that chance. A full representation is a must in my opinion.
I love most of the music here on Reverbnation. And even if I don't, I still respect the fact it's sincere and comes from the heart. When I see that an artist only provides a 30 sec clip, I immediately leave their page.
That is just me. Am I crazy for feeling that way? I would love to hear your thoughts.
Getting people out of to my shows is so important as an independent artist. Today has been filled with music promotion. It's amazing how much time it takes to get the word out about shows, reviews, etc. I get it. It comes with the territory. I sometimes forget that this is every bit as crucial as playing my instrument.
As an artist, I hope to one day hand off these duties to someone else. In the meantime, promotion is the word of the day. Here are some local one for you to share.

Los Angeles has many excellent music venues. There is one in particular that has made a name for itself for a specific sound and vibe. They have created a Brand not much different than the Whiskey a go go. Although a very different sound.
I've always wanted to play this space as all of my dear friends have performed and thrived on this stage. I've watched over the years how the community built up the artists from the ground up. I can honestly say that I've never seen an act that was sub par at this wonderful establishment.
I've submitted my request to book this place many times by using my connections to the owners, directly and indirectly. Two of my players are regular musicians at this establishment and very much respected. So I know ability is not a factor. After this latest attempt (even speaking directly to the owner), I've finally come to grips that my sound may not belong, or for that matter, desired here. It's a tough pill to swallow as I truly believed we could make it work.
My friends and band mates have told me over and over again, but I guess I didn't listen. I just knew that our originality and chops would over come the style issue. I have the utmost respect for this venue as they embrace an established sound which should be treasured.
I hear it now. I'm at peace. It's a great feeling. I am finding that there are other places that will embrace my what I'm doing. And there are other communities searching for a new vibe, new take, a new beginning.
I'm not saying that I will never share my passion on this stage. I'm saying I will never put it out to the universe again. I will simply be happy to know that the world is my stage.
So cheers to me for coming to Grips... It's about freaking time!!!
I recently received a request to perform a notable, yet, small room down on Sunset in Hollywood. I've played this place a few times over the years. The room is small yes, but is very cool for an acoustic set.
With that said, the promoters I've dealt with have been fair. The promoter in question (no names) is asking an artist to play for what amounts to a 25 min set for $10 cover with a Flyer. Not sure how much without a Flyer.
After 15 people pay to see you, you get 100% of the door. Forget about the length of the set for a minute. The Room only holds about 40 people Max. The email even states that the room has a capacity that is low. Basically there is no way for you to bring enough people to make money if all of the artists bring there 15 people. Nevermind the fact that you are asking your friends and fans to pay $10 to see you play for 25 mins.
Although I believe $10 is fair deal to see music, this is completely unfair to an artist. I've done these types of shows many times in the past. Why? Because I love to play music. And don't beat yourself up over this decision. And don't be too hard on the promoters either for that matter. This is the deal they have put out. Either take it or leave it.
Until we as artists demand a better rate or pull enough crowd to warrant a guarantee, this is what we have to deal with.
Much respect. chapa
I love it when i run across things that make me think. And that I believe are true.
Check out this Great Read from Cari Cole Music Company. It's worth the share.
Wow... To think about all of the years I've spent pursuing a sound. I like to believe that I have arrived with a sound that I can be proud of. Of course that is merely my opinion.
I feel that a sound is born from your spirit and is enhanced by the people you surround yourself with. I've been fortunate to have played with some very talented musicians in my time. And the sound that we have created is all of ours.
With that said, after utilizing Cello for the first three albums, the bass will once again fill in the low end. In fact, there will be no woodwinds either on the new album.
I'm ready for this transition. I'm ready for lies ahead as an artist.
Much love and respect to you all.
LOVE... Hello everyone... Chapa Here. I'm extremely grateful for the love and support I've received over the years. This musical life I've chosen has brought about many highs and lows. I do understand that the universe has a way of providing you exactly what you need. The more I think about it, the more I smile. With that said, I would like to gift you all something that is very dear to me. My music, My passion...
As an artist, I create so that I may share with the world. My dear friend Brian Wright says it perfectly in a song, "Art is only yours until the moment you create it." I'm so proud of what I've accomplished thus far and I want to share it with everyone.
All you have to do to get access to my music catalog is to write me back and tell me you would love some FREE MUSIC. I will then send you a link to my site where you can Download both full length albums, A Look To The West, and A Buyers Ride.
Please be patient with me getting back to you. I promise I will. There will be two links for each album coming your way as soon as possible.
All I ask in return is that you spread the word. You can post it on your sites, give it to friends and family, or do whatever your little heart desires. I've learned over the years of making music that inspiring others is what drives me an artist. My goal in life, and in music, is to be remembered as someone who spreads good will to all. My songs come from personal experiences that most of you can relate. I know in my heart that life will treat you with a smile if you allow yourself to receive.
I'm at peace with my creations. I'm in love with who I am as a person. And I'm grateful for the Gift I am sharing. I wish nothing but the same for all of you...

As an independent artist, We have to Self Promote. Just comes with the territory. With that said, as a fan, we can get bombarded with promotion and it can be annoying. Just know that it comes from the space of love and respect. Walking this path is not for everyone I agree. But the search for respect and recognition is what drives us all.
Now, I want to give back by spreading the word about some of my favorite artists. I plan on promoting one artist every couple of days. Time permitting of course.
My first musical artist comes from my home town. I have the pleasure of calling him a Friend and Peer.
Friends, Family, Fans... You are missing out if you haven't heard of Tea Aguilar. A true artist is the best description I can say. Do yourself a favor and search him out. Find out when he is playing and support or go to the below sites and show some love.
Much love and respect. chapa
Hello Guys. I'm looking for members for my Street Team. There are so many things that need to be handled and it's becoming increasingly difficult to push further. I know there are many of you out there who have the time and skills. The reward will come in time as this project moves onwards.
This is what I need.
1. Social media hound. Someone who loves to promote other music or artists on line.
2. Video guru. Someone with skills in editing and video production. This will definitely lead to paying gigs.
3. Foot soldiers. Fans who will be willing to spread the word on the streets, in cafes, sitting around with friends.
The Chapa street team will be ran with integrity and honesty. As this is what my brand is.
If this is something that you would be interested in, please contact me as soon as possible.
I look forward to working with you.
Much love and respect. chapa
A term used for my 2nd full length album. What it means to me is that moment I moved to Los Angeles from Texas. Everything was new and fresh. Hope was alive and thriving. It's still there but mostly I've looked pass the west to beyond. Yes that is a bit corny, but so is life at times. I love the smiles of other people in the West and everywhere else. Finding your voice in this madness can be tough but for me, just remembering the hope, love, and commitment it took to step out (to the west), is enough. Love you all. chapa
