In August of 2011 I was blessed with the chance to spend one last week with my dad & my son in the place we vacationed for all of my life & my kids lives; Otsego Lake, in Gaylord Michigan. I wrote these lyrics to my wife (who was not able to join me on that trip) while sitting on the old wooden swing that faces the lake. Today I made it through the one year anniversary of my dad's death by finally putting music to it. Thanks for the memories dad. They were amazing!
Remembering PVT Gary Smith, US Marine... 44 years ago, on May 26, 1967 my Grandparent's baby boy, my dad's kid brother, my Uncle Gary, willingly put his life on the line to save his friend and fellow Marine in the midst of battle in Vietnam. He succeeded in saving his friend, but gave his own life in the process. Grandma mourned his death til her dieing day almost 40 years later. The affect on our family, and his closest friends, has been profound and life-long. I am humbled to realize that Uncle Gary and brave American soldiers everywhere have laid down their lives for me. Freedom is NOT free! To quote Jesus, "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends". Remembering their ultimate act of love on this Memorial Day, 2011. - Steve
As I allow my personal thoughts to ooze out through my pen, I realize they will often have different meanings to others than they do for me.
I see "Only Crazy" as a song that many could relate to. The common thread for most of us is that we've laid our heart on the line for someone, and the results are not always what we hope that they would be.
Maybe you feel that you've found your soul mate, but they just won't commit fully. Maybe you're separated ( or even divorced ), but holding on for a miracle. Maybe your loved one is on the battlefield, and you constantly fear the worst. If your situation is similar to one of these, I pray that you'll find the peace that you so desperately need as you wait for them to "appear around the corner & prove that you're not insane".
For me however, I wrote this as someone wondering where God is in my life. Many of us believe with every inch of our being that God is real, yet at times he seems impossible to locate or understand.
So the question remains... am I insane, or only crazy. Only time will tell ;^) - Steve
In January I wrote a song to my wife of 22 years, called "Our Reality Show". My goal was to give her & our adult children something to remind them of the great times that we've had as a family. With the completion of the video on March 31st, I believe I've succeeded. I hope that it will also serve as a heartwarming ( yet Rockin') reminder to you, of the uniquely sweet times that make up "your" reality show.
