Hey there everyone, Project # 1. I've got a new CD coming out, an intimate acoustic album, featuring myself and Erik Avery, entitled 'Hold On and Let Go" . 9 songs, 2 guitars, and I do a fair amount of 2nd and 3rd track vocals on this album also. You can watch a homemade music vid of this song here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=we3nPciQcdA
This is not the version on the CD, but just a sneak peek at the title song in it's babyhood. Project #2. I have been restructuring my band, really looking to develop a certain sound for the next album, faster tempo, cruchier guitar, maybe live. While all my Cd's so far seem to fall into singer/songwriter or folk, my live band experience is more like 'indie artpop' or even alternative rock/jam band. Kristin Johnson has joined us on the drumkit, and we are really loving the creative energy we share.. Plus I love live recordings. I love my audience. You are awesome. Thanks for coming out! Project # 3 I have founded, and been directing and producind a unique performance event entitled "She...On The Tip Of Her Tongue" "She" is a troupe of female performers that features a diverse range of performance art from music to fire spinning, to poetry to 'stomp' style rhythm, and always is dedicated to The 5 Sacred Elements, air, fire, water, earth and spirit. As well as honoring these elements, we embody them. SHE is the expression of The Divine Feminine, in all her aspects. We are introspective, outspoken, sweet and spicy!
I created She in the early part of 2011 and we held our first performance in June of this year. Sold out both nights! SHE was envisioned for a multitude of reasons. One was that it's so much fun to sing and perform WITH other talented women that it seemed to much fun to resist! Second, I felt a strong need to counter the intentional focused energy of war and hate that is so rampant in the world right now with an intentional focused act of love and creation. While many are waging wars and the planet is recieving one environmental blow after the next, I asked myself what I could do, beyond my lifestyle choice, to activate the compassion and reverance for nature necessary for global and community change. In the wake of the Gulf oil spill, the answer I recieved, as an idea, was for the voice of the Earth to speak through women, to audiences, on behalf of the freedom, liberation and healing of the Divine Feminine. Like, if we could inspire even one person to treat the aina with the respect due to a mother, that would be a victory. And if in turn, we can treat mothers with the respect due to the aina, humanity would have a chance to redeem itself from it's horrific acts of greed, violence and war that history shows us time and again, and maybe the healing can begin. Third reason was that there are just so many incredible, talented women of many artistic paths out there, who can use the platform of SHE to present their offerings to an audience. As an independant musician and a mother of two children, I know how challenging it can be to take care of the basics and still move forward with artistic projects. I saw this as a way for many women to work together in an uplifting, non- competitive fashion, and create for ourselves a showcasing that can help to promote all of our unique and diverse talents. Mahalo (thank you) for all your support. My fans and friends are why I play. I love sharing it with you and look joyward to much more creation! Aloha ~ iris
Unreleased song from upcoming album, I'm just impatient to share it!! "Hold On and Let Go" was originally a break-up song when I was around 19, called "Mad at Me". But as time moved, life changed and so did the song.. ..what doesn't grow is dead..so here it is, hope you like it.. ~ iris
