There are only a few more opportunities to see Blackstone Cúil before we take an extended hiatus. Our friend and bandmate, Brendan Keenan, is finishing up his doctorate in Education at UMASS Amherst and it will require several months of focus, and his free time to complete. The band supports him one hundred percent in this endeavor. Brendan is a talented and valuable member of our group and we look forward to continuing with him once he graduates in the spring of 2014. BC will not be idle, however. Our goal during the interim is to begin the recording process and perhaps have something ready to release when we resume our playing schedule. Myra, Johnny, and Mike will also be playing in various formations over the next few months. We are grateful for everyone who has supported us, and ask that you come out once or twice more to make these last few shows memorable. The Blackstone Cúil website and our other cyber homes will be active with updates, so please keep checking in on us. See you soon, BC
Blackstone Cúil's first show of 2013 was up in Clinton, MA at the Old Timer's Tap Room & Restaurant. Because of the Patriots game, there were few in attendance, but that did not stop everyone from having a great time. We loved the room and the wonderful staff at Old Timer's, and we made some new friends. Can't wait to go back :)
We are so excited to see everyone at Fiddler's Green on Wednesday night. They're opening the big room for us because our Cúil Mods (our friends and supporters - does that work?) have been packing the place. So let's do it! Lá altaithe shona dhuit.
We had a great time at City Hall in Worcester playing for the Harvey Ball. Thanks to Cliff Broverman for coming in last minute to do sound for the night. He was fantastic. Our next public venue looks to be the Sons of Erin Irish Club in Westfield, MA on 10/26. If you're in the area, come on by; I hear it get rowdy in there.
This weekend Blackstone Cúil is out in Rutland, MA to play a private party. We'll be back in a public venue soon - can't wait to see all of you!
Our first show at Fiddler's Green was a fantastic time with an awesome audience. Next stop, Pinecroft Dairy in W. Boylston for an outdoor concert from 6 - 8pm. Come and join us.
Joining with Myra and myself are Johnny Guertin (bodhran, djembe) and Brendan Keenan (mandolin, guitar), so now we are a band! While there's no reason Ladd & MacLeod wouldn't continue to gig occasionally, we will be changing the band name to Blackstone Cúil (cool) and gigging with the band. So look for the Blackstone Cúil reverbnation page and website soon. We hope to see you at our inaugural show in August.
Close to a packed house, I think, great fun ensued at Fiddler's Green. Thanks to everyone who joined Ladd & MacLeod this night. And thanks to Johnny Guertin for filling us out on bodhran and djembe. Hope to have some sound clips from the show posted soon ;)
The Worcester Hibernian Cultural Center is presenting the play "Shadow of a Gunman" on the 18th from 7:30 - 10pm. While the Fiddler's Green pub will be open, the Ladd & MacLeod show will start as the play ends, around 10. Good things going on with L & M. Shows in May and June coming up, looking to start some demo recording for a possible album, and a project in the works that may develop into a fun surprise.
