Here's my top 10 Electronica songs that have inspired or moved me in some way. Keep in mind...this isn't my all-time top 10 list; that would be very hard to narrow down. Someday I hope to reach the level of skill and success that these artists have achieved. Listen to every one of these songs, dammit! 10. Smack my b*tch up - Prodigy. An aggressive in-your-face song with some crazy bass and a memorable sample pulled from an Ultramagnetic MC's tune. 9. Think about the way - Ice Mc. Great 90's eurodance that still holds up. The remixes are great, but you can't go wrong with the original. 8. Private Psychedelic Reel - The Chemical Brothers. One of the best songs ever, with an absolutely spectacular finish! 7. Save the last trance for me - Oakenfold. Not really an Oakenfold fan, but this is truly some of the most epic trance ever laid out. 6. The Test - The Chemical Brothers. Big beats, great melody and inspiring lyrics. I dare you not to be moved in some way by this tune. 5. Furious Angels (instrumental) - Rob Dougan. A stunningly beautiful hybrid of classical and electronic. Kinda like Craig Armstrong, but powered up! 4. Poor Leno - Royksopp. Maybe the best House song ever? Possibly...listen and try not to get up and dance! 3. Musique - Daft Punk. A good vibe and some hard-hitting kicks round out this infinitely listenable song. 2. Xpander - DJ Sasha. A trance masterpiece. Sounds deceptively simple, but its complexity comes through with multiple listens. And you will listen multiple times. 1. Funny Break (Weekend Ravers Mix) - Orbital. If I hadn't listened to this song a decade ago, I probably wouldn't have taken as much of an interest in creating Electronica. This song singlehandedly shattered expectations of what Electronic music meant, and what could be accomplished. Not only did Orbital set the path with this amazing song, it raised the bar to an almost unreachable level...a level which I believe has yet to be surpassed.
