A big shout-out thanks to the Triangle Blues Society for believing in me. It rocked in Memphis and I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to be a part of the International Blues Challenge 2015. Thank you to all the volunteers giving your endless time and money for the cause.
Wishing you all many blessings in the New Year!!!
Jason Damico - An Amalgamation Immersed in playing his Blues, Jason Damico didn't notice the crowd at the Triangle Blues Challenge on July 26 when he won the Solo/Duo category. From tapping toes and swaying bodies, the wave of spectators moved with the music spilling from his Taylor 314 acoustic guitar. Damico just concentrated on demonstrating his philosophy: "Keep emotionally moving music alive and well." Damico is only 20 years old, but he's been capturing audiences for almost a decade. Starting formal piano lessons at the age of 3, he added drums a year later and then self-taught himself guitar before turning 10. At 13, Damico was already performing professionally. He continues to evolve as a musician, seeing himself as "an amalgamation of a bunch of music styles in an artist who loves the Blues. "Blood, Sweat & Blues," Damico's new CD, demonstrates his talents as a guitarist, singer and song writer. Rock Harbor Grill in Apex (121 N Salem St) hosts the album's release party on Sept. 27. Join the fun and filming that night, as iTunes readies its release of Damico's original, "Hold Me a Little Closer," as a single. You'll also be moving Jason a little farther on his travels to on the "Road to Memphis" for the International Blues Competition in January 2015. Now that I am officially 20, I can finally post advice to all you "teenagers" out there... because life is actually very simple... you can't see that now because of your kite-high flying hormones right now, but give it a few years; you'll come around. Here's 12 things:
Number 1: Trust God and God alone! Period. Not man, not woman, education, government, future, etc.. Even when you think that the God of the universe is letting you down... He's actually raising you up.
Number 2: LOVE as much as you can and live in love... no... this doesn't mean have a bunch of sex... sex is sex... love is love. Period.
Number 3: Again within the context, ideology and functionality of love, love what you do. This and your love for God should be the reason why you get out of bed in the morning. Nothing else... because at the end of the day, at the end of the week, at the end of the month, at the end of the year, and at the end of your life, what else do you have but Love? Nothing.
Number 4: When you are depressed, be thankful. When life seems too painful or to tormenting or distressful, take a look around. Somebody else is in more pain, more distress, or in more of a despondent/helpless state than you are. Be thankful for what you have and NEVER take your health for granted.
Number 5: Listen more and talk less.
Number 6: Never live in fear! Break the chains in your life... attack head on ALL FEARS... I can not stress this one enough.
Number 7: Idol time is truly the devil's playground... STAY BUSY. STAY PRODUCTIVE. ALWAYS KEEP IMPROVING and always continual cultivate your God given gifts, talents, and abilities.
Number 8: Life is full of disappointments... get used to it! You'll love someone and they won't love you back... you'll put your heart and soul into something and the outcome drastically won't be what you initially expected. You'll fall in love and get your heart broken... IT IS WHAT IT IS. Accept it and move on... (segway to #9 below...)
Number 9: In the valley of decision, 3 choices exist: you can go back, you can stand still, or you can move forward. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, move forward. Move forward through fear, move forward through pain, move forward through tears streaming down your face... move forward in the midst of the whole world seemingly collapsing and falling apart. All of your trials, tribulations, and hardships are never in vein, but in complete, harmonious purpose and ordainment for your God-given journey and story in this life.
Number 10: FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH.
Number 11: Relax. No, seriously, relax. It really isn't that bad...
Number 12: Make sure you have fun... laugh a lot, make a lot of memories with the ones you love... and always cherish and live in the present; for the present is, indeed, a present. :)
