More About The Artist
Monica Pasqual spent a good part of her first four years underneath her
family's grand piano, operating the pedals while her father played
Mozart. She liked the swirly sounds and later got in trouble with her
piano teacher for using too much pedal while playing Bach. She has
noticed that this can be a problem in the recording studio, too.
She grew up safely un-Mormon in Salt Lake City, (though in the early 1900s
her Great Grandfather spent time in a federal penitentiary for
practicing polygamy). Just to make sure that life in Utah was slightly
uncomfortable for her, she inherited a Spanish artist for a mom who
painted the living room red back in the days when nobody painted their
living rooms red. How embarrassing.
Monica loves to read Vanity Fair in the bathtub and tries to go to bed before 10, unless
she's trapped on a stage somewhere, baring her soul to a hopefully,
understanding audience. She really did see spaceships at the Planet
Ranch and even though she loves them, she gets sick every time she eats
bagels. Currently a member of the popular all-woman band, Blame Sally, Monica Pasqual has
had a prolific career making music since the mid-90's. Bringing both a background
in classical piano and her current side-career composing music for film soundtracks
to her songwriting, Pasqual’s recent solo material has focused on haunting, yearning
song-poems that explore her sense of place, love, loss, war and dreams.
